Restaurant Review of Flavors Indian Restaurant

This New Restaurant Has Come Up in Dallas

Monty
Dallas is the home to a variety of restaurants. You can find restaurants serving all kinds of cuisine, such as Thai, Chinese, Italian, Indian etc. Indian restaurants are widely popular here, and number of Indian restaturants are increasing rapidly. Primary reason for this being that Dallas is the house to a large Asian population.

But, surprisingly, when you go to these Indian restaurants you do not find lots of Indians out there. In fact, many a times number of Americans eating in these restaurants exceed the number of Indians. This is because of the fact that Indian cuisine has been gaining popularity and acceptance (everyone knows Chicken Tikka). And also because most of these restaurants serve food in form of buffet. So, you can eat your heart out without poking a hole in your pocket.

A few days back, Dallas saw the opening of yet another Indian restaurant. It is "Flavors Indian Restaurant". Some of my friends had visited this, and they really liked it. After hearing so much good stuff about this, I was really tempted to go.

So, I decided to go there with my American friend. He seem to have developed an instant liking for Indian food, and was thrilled at the idea of Indian lunch. We went there, and were cordially greeted by the manager. We went there quite early, so restaurant was not highly occupied. Once you enter the restaurant, the first reaction that you have is that this is bigger than normal Indian restaurants. First positive thing, I thought.

We were seated at a window facing table. The furniture, setting, and ambiance was just ordinary. Not much to write about them. We were guided towards the buffet corner. Waiter did not forget to mention that drink is on the house (inaugural offer). We went to the buffet. My American friend let me take the lead. He wanted me to guide him regarding the best stuff. I straight away went to the appetizers part. Appetizers consisted of "Pakoda", along with "Idli" and "Sambar". Pakodas were fine, but Idli was one of the best I ever had in Dallas. The Sambhar was just perfect and complimented the Idli well. My American friend also seemed to like them. Once done with appetizers, we decided to go for drink. I decided to order a "Mango Lassi" instead of some soft drink. It is a mango drink made of Yoghurt. The drink tasted really well. Everything was completely balanced, and it wasn't excessively sweet. Only thing that could be improved in there was the glasses in which it was served. Again, the crockery was just ordinary.

Main course was quite lavish. We went for a few curries, lemon rice, and Chicken. Lemon rice was too good. I could not find a lot of Indian restaurants in Dallas which served Lemon rice. This one was a long awaited dish, and was better than expected. Curries were also good. Again, only thing I think could have been improved was the setting in which it was served. I missed "Indian Papad". Nans were quite fine, and were hot and soft. Both of us decided that we had to take another round of main course.

Once through main course, we proceeded to dessert section. I think it was the best part of my meal. There were four desserts, and each one of them better than other. We had a hard time deciding which one should we go for. In the end, I settled for "Halwa", "Gulab Jamun", and custard. While my friend settled for "Kheer" and "Gulab Jamun". Each one of them was simply delicious. And we wished we hadn't taken two rounds of main course, as were not able to eat dessert much. Still we managed to eat quite a lot.

When the bill came, it was quite a big surprise for us. We had two sumptuous buffet, along with two mango lassi for less than $25!! We tipped the waiter graciously.

To summarize, the food was really good. There is more than enough variety. And you would enjoy the whole meal, starting from appetizers, right up to dessert. However, settings and ambiance could be improved a bit. But, all in all, you get a value proposition for the price you are paying. Visit there at least once. You might develop a liking for the place. I already have.

    Stay Away.....A very bad experience....

We were visiting dallas few weeks ago and wanted to try some indian food. Based on these reviews we decided to try this place. There were a few of us inclduing some of our Indian Friends. We got there a little early (11:45AM) for the saturday buffet. Here is scoop:

1: We waited at the lobby for about 5 to minues before some took us to our table... He (looks like the owner) told us to follow him and took us to a booth and then told us: "you sit here." and walked away.

    2. It was freezing in there since out side temperature was very cold. So we track down someone (owner again) and asked politely to raise the temperature a bit. He gave usa very dirty look and walked away..I am telling you this guy was very rude....

    3. TO TOP everything off... some of us in the group got sick that day....severe diareah....

    One word... stay away...
