Gene's Famous Seafood, also know to some people as "Gene's Lobster Shack", is a favorite seafood restaurant located at 146 Huttleston Avenue, Rt. 6 to Cape Cod, Fairhaven Massachusetts. Owners are Connie, and Ed Gene. They have fast service with takeout orders, and accept telephone orders at (508-996-5127). They are not a fast food restaurant, but a favorite restaurant to both the locals and the vacationers.

Gene's is open 7 days a week, Sunday-Thursday from 11:00am to 9:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 10:00 PM, and closed for vacation in the month of January. There is ample parking, and easy to get in and out onto Route 6.

Gene's dining area is decorated in nautical style, with picnic benches to sit at decorated with nautical maps. There are nautical decorations on the walls also. The restaurant and restrooms are exceptionally clean. The restaurant staff is both friendly and helpful, and fast in delivering your order. It's warm and cozy in the winter, and cool in the summer with picnic benches outdoors to dine on.

I ordered the fresh fried clam plate. It was overflowing with clams, and french fries. Included was fresh cole slaw and tarter sauce. My companion ordered the fried scallops. He commented "these are so good, but there is so much I don't know if I'll be able to eat them all". Others were taking theirs home to have at a later time.

The menu consists of seafood, and includes fresh, scallops, fried clams, shrimp, lobster, and fresh fish. You'll love the fish and chips. Side dishes include, french fries, onion rings, clam cakes, cole slaw, and much more. There is more than seafood, and you can order a hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog, stuffed quahog, tuna roll, or clam chowder. The seafood platters all come with french fries, and cole slaw. Gene's seafood platter specialty includes, fried clams, scallops, shrimp, fish, french fries, cole slaw and tarter sauce, and is priced at $19.95 for a heaping plateful. You can order a soda, carton of milk, beer, wine, coffee or tea, water or juice.

You can purchase a platter, plate or buy the seafood by the box. You can get your fried clams, shrimp, scallops, or clam strips by the 1/2 pint or pint boxes. Or you can buy a sandwich or roll.

Gene's is a favorite restaurant for visitors to Cape Cod, and is well known by people everywhere. The prices are reasonable, and the food is not only fresh, but cooked just right, and you always get a heaping plateful.

You can phone in your order, and they will have it ready for you to take out if you prefer. Whatever you decide, you won't be disappointed in Gene's Famous Seafood. You will most definitely return for more.

On the take out menu includes a "Captain's Memo" which reads in part, "Attention all passengers! We are not a fast food restaurant as you've come to know them. Our nutritious foods are prepared here daily, using the freshest products available. We are, however old hands at getting your order out in a hurry, skimping neither on service nor guality. Your attendant will be pleased to answer questions concerning menu items and your comments always welcome."

I just ordered clam roll and clam cakes. All was greasy, with a taste of 'old' grease throughout. Very disapointing! How did they get 'famous"????

I'm looking for foods that really represent the Cape. In other words food items that you can only get at the cape. What grown there, what their famous for?

The fish is extremely greesy, they have a large tray of pre-cooked fish sitting on a counter in a warm kitchen which I'm sure is not the best way to store fish before cooking and they take the pre-cooked fish and re-fry it. That is where the oil is absorbed into the thick batter, YUK! This is a poor spin off the nice fluffy english style batter, as for the other meal we ordered, chalk has more flavor than the shrimp plate
A medium F&C, shrimp plate and six extremely greesy clam cakes cost us 36 bucks.
I am sorry to say but this is an extremely bad deal but the place is packed, I dont think these people have any tastebuds.

The Gateway in Wareham MA. has by far a better Fish and Chips plate and for less money yet double the size, you will not be disappointed I promise the menu and specials are amazing!!
