After watching the Irish/Italian parade on Canal Street on March 19, we decided to catch dinner nearby. We stopped at the Gordon Biersch Restaurant for an early dinner. Gordon Biersch, Brewery, Restaurant is located at 200 Poydras Street near the New Orleans Casino, and appears to be an upscale restaurant with high-priced stead dinners featured prominently on the menu.

We waited a reasonable amount of time to be seated, which we were fine with as we did not have a reservation. Once we were seated, there we sat for quite a while (15-20 min) before we realized we were being completely ignored. We signaled a waiter who checked to see where our waiter was and eventually informed us that our waiter went home sick without saying anything.

We finally got a waiter, but no apology. We decided to order Hors d'œuvre before even thinking about a meal. After all, the prices were reasonably high and we wanted to make sure we liked the food. We ordered Southeast Egg Rolls, which we are accustomed to ordering from another chain restaurant, and were sorely disappointed. They were just plain salty and rather gross.

With this revelation, my husband decided to keep it simple and order a hamburger. I decided to skip the meal and get a slice of cheesecake. The burger was unimpressive at best, and the cheesecake was the driest I had ever tried. After eating a portion of it, I began to realize that it was quite stale, and had a strong refrigerator odor to it. We left the restaurant unsatisfied and with a loss of appetite for the evening.

Granted, I did not try the steak or seafood which appeared to be the main-stays of the menu. Also the drinks were fine. The overall lack of service and bad tasting food would make me not want to return to this restaurant again.

I don't know what it takes for cheesecake to go stale. That's a horrible sign...
