Color me surprised. The Green Rock Tap and Grill, a fun, high-energy Irish pub in downtown Hoboken, has some pretty damn good food. Located near Hoboken Terminal at 70 Hudson Street across from Hobson's Choice, Green Rock Tap and Grill is a great place to fuel up before a long night on the town. Here is a review of Green Rock Tap and Grill in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Let me start by saying this: Green Rock Tap and Grill is an Irish pub, and the food is very good... for Irish pub food. Anyone who has spent a lot of time in Irish pubs knows that Irish pub food, in general, is not very good. But Green Rock Tap and Grill is a surprise. No, it's not a five star restaurant. No, it's not a great place to take your boss or that client you are trying to impress. No, it's not a spot where you would want to take a hot first date. But it is a fine place to coat your stomach at before beginning a night of utter debauchery.

I recommend their wraps; they are very good. Wash it down with one of their Happy Hour beer specials, which are also very good. Not in the mood for a wrap? You are safe with a burger, a chicken sandwich, buffalo wings, even a pizza for one. Just about everything on their menu is pretty good.

Green Rock Tap and Grill is not a large eatery. It's cozy, and the service is acceptable. For the best service, eat at the bar. The atmosphere is fun and the bar scene gets very lively. If the place looks too crowded, it is not a good time to eat there. Sandwiches and wraps are very reasonably priced, as is the beer.

My friend John says of Green Rock Tap and Grill: "Green Rock is a great place to go during Happy Hour. Sit at the bar, order a beer and a sandwich, and watch a little television. I don't care for Green Rock when it's crowded; they pack them in too tight. That's when the service goes downhill, too. The food at Green Rock is pretty good, beats the hell out of Sullivans and Hobson's Choice, and just about any other Irish bar I've been to."

My friend Vin says of Green Rock Tap and Grill: "The food is not half-bad. It's quick, it's familiar, and it's a great place to catch a game on a lazy weekday afternoon. The service isn't too great at the tables, especially when you are sitting outside. But inside at the bar works just fine for me."
