Restaurant Review GW's Fine Food and Spirits,

Tiffin, Ohio

There was a bit of excitement in our lives this week-end. We had an ole high school chum coming for a visit. Jack Freeh had wandered the halls of St Joseph Central Catholic with me in the sixties. I have seen or talked much with Jack in all these years. Jack Freeh also has invited us to supper as his guests.

Jack Freeh now lives in the city that claims to have "The Best Damn Marching Band in the Land..." I suggested we go to a little place in Tiffin, Ohio since that is on his way home. I know the food @ GW's Fine Food and Spirits is good. Located in the former Wyme's @ 275 D Washington in Tiffin, Ohio. Parking is in the rear. When you come in the rear entrance you can observe how clean and efficient the kitchen is operating. Kitchen hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6am till 9pm Saturday and Sunday 6am till 10pm... Give 'em a call @ 419-443-1510

We walked into a Scarlet and Gray dining room. Just like the old song from "Cheers" it seemed as everyone knew your name and you have come home. I'll bet if you listen closely you could hear the voices of many ole timers echo from the walls. Alice Puffenberger, Paul Mehling and many more giggling, listening to Tommy Dorsey on the juke box and eating great wholesome food. The menu speaks of comfort food and it is diverse. sandwiches, dinners, even a steak or two.

Jack Freeh and I both decided on the Elliot's Roast Beef Manhattan served open face with whipped potatoes and flood it with gravy. The beef was so tender we didn't need a knife and the gravy was almost as good as Mom's. Jack had a cold crisp salad with some Blue Cheese dressing that looked great. I chose the cup of Homemade Beef Vegetable soup...it was outstanding and more great tender beef than most soups. The Queen Goddess ordered the three piece fish basket which includes French Fries and cole slaw. The fish was a battered dipped white fish, great flavor and eye appealing presentation.... Hold your fork the best is yet to come...

We believe that dessert is an important part of every meal. Remember all those gals that skipped dessert on the Titanic! This night the Queen Goddess and I shared a Carmel Cheese Cake that will tantalize our memory for many days to come. Jack Freeh tried a piece of Cherry Pie that looked homemade but he wouldn't let me taste....He did say something like decadent but I couldn't tell for sure his mouth was full of pie.

Well folks I'm not sure how much this feast cost. I know when Jack Freeh got the check he remarked that very reasonable....But then he is from Columbus. If Y'all get to GW's Fine Food and Spirits before we return tell 'em Bubba and Bonnie sent ya...Jack Freeh sends his best from down South too. Mizpah ;-}}>
