Restaurant Review: Hinze's Barbeque Restaurant in Sealy, Texas

Mimi Adkins
Traveling through most small Texas towns one is likely to at least find one or two barbeque restaurants. Sealy, Texas is no exception. Established in 1976, Hinze's Restaurant is located on Highway 6 near Interstate 10. If you are hankering for some good pecan smoked meat, then Hinze's might just be the place to satisfy that craving.

The atmosphere at Hinze's is relaxed and informal. Large tables and smaller booths comprise their dining area. The restaurant décor is western even with a few mounted game trophies on the walls. Included at each table is an individual roll of paper towels for those barbeque sauce cleanups. Orders are placed at a counter. When the orders are filled, customers pick up their orders at a counter as well. Hinze's barbeque restaurant has a self serve drink station for their patrons.

Hinze's Restaurant menu is quite extensive. Choices include bbq plates which range in price from $5.95 to $9.95. Most plates come with some type of meat or chicken and side orders. Some of the side orders are buttered carrots, mashed potatoes with gravy, mustard greens, baked beans, dirty rice, macaroni/cheese and many more. Spuds (plain or loaded) are also available. Menu items also include special plates such as catfish, shrimp, and chicken fried steak. These range in price from $6.25 to $11.95. A wide variety of sandwiches are available, too. From your traditional sliced beef to guacamole burgers, Hinze's offers customers a lot of options. Prices for sandwiches are in the $4.00-$5.00 range. A child's plate (which includes a beverage) costs $3.99. Kids can choose from chicken strips, grilled cheese, sausage, beef, popcorn shrimp or a corndog. All orders include French fries along with a side order of their choice.

Customers may also choose an entree from a meat selection that does not include bread, pickles or onions. These items may be purchased at a variety of prices. Choices include sliced beef, turkey, sausage and many more.

At the end of the meal, give your sweet tooth something to smile about with one of Hinze's desserts. Pies, cobblers, turnovers and cookies make up the dessert menu. Pies can be bought by the slice or whole pies may also be purchased. Pies by the slice range in price from $1.95 to $2.50. Whole pies may be purchased for prices of $9.50-$13.95 per pie.

Restaurant hours are Sunday through Thursday 10:30-9 pm and Friday-Saturday 10:30-9:30. Hinze's Restaurant also caters, does orders to go and has a drive through.
