On occasion our family likes to go out to eat and we're always up to trying a new restaurant. Since we've only lived in this area for under a year everything is still a little new to us. So we decided to try a restaurant that we've seen many times but never visited.

"Hunan Palace" is located at 1401 Gold Coast Road, Suite #200 in Papillion, Nebraska. As we walked in, the restaurant was a lot smaller than expected; having only 2 dining areas to accommodate its customers. While waiting to be seated I saw a table by the front door which had a colander with vegetables in it and there was also food lying on that same table. I found that to be odd but figured that it was put there temporarily while the host was seating customers. When going to our table I noticed the dining area was quite cramped because they had arranged the tables very close together. It didn't feel very comfortable and because the table itself was so small my son and husband bumped elbows quite often.

As I surveyed the menu I was impressed by the many choices available and also because we were given an option to make substitutions if necessary. The dinner menu had choices such as "Shrimp with Lobster Sauce," "Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce," and "Ta-Chin Chicken;" appetizers; "Shrimp Toast," "Crab Rangoon," and "Dumplings," and a selection of soft drinks, juice, and tea. Appetizers start at $1.30 and go up to $11.75 and main dishes start at $5.35 and go up to $9.60 per dish.

After placing our order we decided to head to the restroom and wash our hands. Upon entering the ladies room I could see that they didn't spend too much time keeping it clean and according to my son the men's bathroom was quite dirty as well. The walls were scuffed and there were cobwebs on the ceiling. The lighting wasn't very good due to only having 1 light bulb when there should have been 2.

After we got back to the table it wasn't too long before they delivered our food. When we received it, it wasn't brought all together, meaning we got our entrée but not the rice, we received the egg rolls but not the hot mustard; everything came in spurts. Our food looked really good but when biting into it we realized it was cold. It didn't taste like they had just cooked it instead it tasted as if it had been sitting out a little while. When we were finally able to get the attention of our server we asked him to take the food back to heat it up and although he did, it didn't make much of a difference because the food didn't taste that good. As in other restaurants the servers should periodically check in on the customers to see if there is anything else they need or to re-fill their drinks, but our server only came when we were able to get his attention.

In the end our check was over $38.00 and I didn't feel that the quality of food, the customer service, or the dining facility was worth the amount charged.

"Hunan Palace" is open Monday through Thursday 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, Saturday 11:30 am to 10:00 pm, and Sundays 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm. For more information call 402-587-1688 or for driving directions go to http://us.chinesemenu.com/r/101335878/.
