Restaurant Review: Jason's Deli in Greensboro, NC

Jason's Deli is a chain restaurant with a focus on serving healthy food. According to the company's website, their food does not contain MSG, high fructose corn syrup, or trans fats. I'm guessing that doesn't apply to the fountain drinks, but then again the key word was, "food." My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Jason's Deli one night while doing some shopping in Greensboro, North Carolina. Neither he nor myself had heard of Jason's Deli, so we weren't necessarily in search of "healthier" food (although that was a pleasant surprise). This particular restaurant is located in Greensboro's Friendly Shopping Center, which makes it a convenient place for people to eat at while doing some shopping if there's no time for a fancy sit-down dinner.

You enter Jason's Deli to find a warm and laid back atmosphere. The decor is more upscale than other sandwich shops, such as a Quizno's or Subway. Ordering can be a little confusing the first few visits. Sandwiches are posted on a large menu board on the wall behind the counter, but a complete menu sits by the cash register, so until you get your hands on one of those you don't see all the selections. Jason's Deli has a wide variety of sandwiches from which to choose, each one with its own special name and list of ingredients. They have sandwiches on ciabatta bread, Po' Boys, wraps, clubs, reubens, paninis, and a build-your-own sandwich option. They also serve baked potatoes, pasta dishes, desserts, a number of pre-made salads, and they have a salad bar if you prefer to do-it-yourself.

We liked Jason's Deli so much that we have eaten there three times when we have been to the Friendly Shopping Center area. The first sandwich I tried was the Club Royale, which is ham, turkey, tomato, lettuce, honey mustard, and two cheeses on a croissant. I consider myself a sandwich snob and this club was to die for. On the second trip I had a limited edition panini which was equally delicious. I have also had the California Club, which is turkey, guacamole, sprouts, tomato, bacon, and swiss cheese on a croissant. I was hesitant about guacamole on a turkey sandwich, but it was delicious. I tasted my boyfriend's Italian Cruz Po' Boy, a behemoth of a sandwich served on New Orleans French Bread. I thought I had gone to sandwich Heaven. Most sandwiches are served with chips, but I prefer to substitute the chips for pasta salad. If you're a fan of great pasta salad, I suggest you do the same. Jason's Deli also offers free ice cream if you're still hungry after a well-stuffed sandwich.

Because when we have eaten at Jason's Deli it has been later than the normal dinner time we didn't experience an overly crowded restaurant, which was fortunate because the way the tables in the dining area are laid out, it might be a little snug trying to get up to get your refills from the drink machines and tea urns. That and the small number of booths would be the only cons I can speak of. However, the quality of food, the reasonable prices, the restaurant cleanliness, and the friendliness of the employees more than make up for the dining room layout.

So, if you're hungry and want a healthy alternative to a fast food burger, be sure to check out Jason's Deli!

I've eaten at Jason's in Vegas several times...it's always good. The place is usually packed, so I guess that's a good sign.
