Restaurant Review: Legends Sports Bar in Prague, Czech Republic

A Great Place to Watch the Game from Home

Thos Robert
If you're in Prague on a holiday, and you're looking for a familiar atmosphere to drink a beer, eat some food, and watch some sports from back home, you can do a lot worse than Legends Sports Bar, located just off of the Old Town Square in Prague. (See below for specific directions.)

The entrance can be a little easy to miss, and that is because Legends is one of Prague's underground restaurants. They usually have an A-frame out front listing the featured sporting events, and there is a sign, but to actually find the pub, you must go through the door, down a short hall way, then proceed down the stairs. That's where you'll find the actual entrance to Legends.

The décor in the main dining hall is modern and is wholly lacking in decoration. Aside from televisions. Many, many televisions. In the center, there is a very long table that is interestingly set at bar counter height and the seating is bar stools. For watching the games, these are the best seats. Around the walls, there is regular restaurant booth seating.

British football and rugby take priority. During the American football season, American football is shown, but basketball, baseball, and hockey are not usually featured. But because there are so many televisions, you can request that the television in front of you be changed to the sporting event you want to watch.

(Personal note, I saw the New England Patriots win two Super Bowls at Legends, and they were both great experiences.)

In regards to food, I can recommend two of the burgers, the "No 16-It's a knockout!" is a cheeseburger with onions and mushrooms, and, with a central European touch, a fried egg. The Legends Super Bowl burger is also quite tasty, it's basically a cheese burger with onions and Irish bacon. They are a tad pricy at 270,-kc and 275,-kc respectively.

The Cheese Steak is also pretty good. And for the price, 185,-kc, you get a lot of food. Strips of steak and lots of vegetables grilled, then topped with cheddar cheese, and finally baked on a roll.

Legends Sandwiches are popular items. As far as I know, they are the only restaurant in Prague to serve up their sandwiches on a Scottish bap. I like the Lincolnshire sausages sandwich (135,-kc) myself. One thing to note, however, about the sandwiches menu at Legends is the fact they do not include any sides. Those must be ordered separately. I recommend the Spicy Fries at 45,-kc. But they also offer Killer Onion Rings at 65,-kc.

And lastly, if you're looking for a large traditional breakfast, check out Legends Full Fry Up! Irish bacon, Lincolnshire sausage, fried eggs, beans, hash browns, and tomato served with bread. At 250,-kc, you definitely get your money's worth.

The beer at Legends is Staropramen, which is an average Czech beer, but at 45,-kc, it's a pretty good deal.

Legends is located behind the Tyn Church in Prague's Old Town Square. When in the square facing the Tyn Church (it's the imposing one with two towers), note the pedestrian passageway to the left. Go all the way through it till you come upon an archway. Go through the archway, and Legends is the first place on your left. The address is Tyn 1, Prague.
