Restaurant Review: L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV

Richard Banks
Tucked away in the Centennial Hills, a suburb of Las Vegas, is L&L Hawaiian Barbeque. Started as simply a Hawaiian plate lunch restaurant has grown into more.

First Impressions of L&L Hawaiian Barbeque

The location was in a busy shopping center with other chain restaurants. My first impression was L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV wouldn't be busy, but was I wrong. I entered the establishment to a line of 10 people waiting. As I waited I noticed pictures of past guests on the wall. All were smiling, happy, and in a great mood. The pictures contributed to a positive vibe for L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV.

The tables were designed for smaller parties instead of large crowds. This wasn't a concern since most guests purchased their food and left.

Wait Staff and Menu at L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV

There wasn't a traditional wait staff, but a cashier. She was one of the franchise owners. This told me she didn't mind getting her hands dirty to serve her guests. One thing which sparked my attention was she knew 95% of the customers by name. So when we were prepared to order, she knew it was our first time visiting L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV.

She warmly explained the dishes and didn't rush to service the next customer. She even proceeded to explain various spices used in the dishes.

The menu consisted of plate lunches: two servings of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and a generous serving of a hot entrée. Dishes included Chicken Katsu (breaded chicken w/special dipping sauce), "Loco Moco" (hamburger patties, two eggs, & gravy), and mahi mahi (w/tartar sauce).

Dinner at L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV

We decided to order the Chicken Katsu. Looking at the picture, I was thinking the chicken would just be deep fried, battered chicken. I was so wrong. The tempura batter was lightly coated on the chicken. There was no hint of oil in any bite of the chicken. The rice was tender and fluffy and not overcooked. The macaroni salad was homemade bliss.

My Take and Thoughts L&L Hawaiian Barbeque Las Vegas, NV

Having never eaten traditional Hawaiian food, I was excited about what I encountered. The service was exceptional, the portions were just the right amount, and the atmosphere was electric. The cost effectiveness of the meals was a positive. Spending under $20 for a complete meal was better than the time I would spend this amount on fast food.
