Restaurant Review: The Marginy Brasserie, New Orleans

My first night back in the French Quarter in New Orleans in nearly a decade, I quickly found that I was a little mature for the typical Friday Night Antics. After trudging around in the dark for what seemed like forever, trying to find a place to eat and enjoy the action from a distance, we nearly gave up. Finally, we hailed a cab to go back to the hotel, then decided to ask the driver if there was a tame place we could go for dinner. He said we should vising Frenchmen St. and took us to The Marigny Brasserie at 640 Frenchmen St, New Orleans.

The restaurant, and bar is on the corner of Frenchmen and Royal Street and is definitely for the older crowd. It was not at all smelly, loud, or crowded. There was, however, a problem with the kitchen being backed up when we arrived around 8:30 pm. Glad to just sit down and rest our aching feet at this point, we opted to be seated and wait. Sitting by the big glass windows, and hearing the sounds of the French Quarter through the nearby open doors allowed us to enjoy Quarter without encountering nasty smells and avoiding staggering drunk kids.

The wait wasn't all that long, maybe 30 minutes before the waiter announced that our meal was accepted by the kitchen. In the meantime, we had very weak drinks and enjoyed each others company. We only ordered appetizers and they were very good. There was cross contamination issue with our meal. We were sharing an appetizer sampler and my husband bit into onion ring and found a shrimp. Due to my seafood allergy, this was very disconcerting. Fortunately, there was only minor eye swelling the next morning.

Overall, it is a good place to stop if you want to enjoy the French Quarter from an adults point of view. It appeared to be a gathering place for mature, but not old locals, and the prices were actually reasonable, leaving us more money for the cab drive back to the hotel.
