Restaurant Review: Marshall's Grandview in Columbus, Ohio
A Popular Location in Grandview at Any Time of Day
Columbus, OH 43212
United States of America
The lunch fare at Marshall's Grandview in Columbus, Ohio is good but rather predictable and much the same as what you're likely to find at Panera or a similar place; sandwiches, wraps, salads, and other quick food and it is usually busy, particularly in the summer when those on lunch break crowd on the patio. While this seems to be one of the least busy times of day at Marshall's Grandview in Columbus, Ohio, the quality of the lunches there shouldn't be underestimated, especially in terms of price. Next door at the Old Bag of Nails you can expect to pay more for less food and less quality. Additionally, any of the times I've been at Marshall's Grandview for lunch, the service has been quick and I've been able to enjoy my meal without fearing being late. Generally, I don't go to Marshall's Grandview in Columbus, Ohio unless it's summer because I love to sit on the patio. While it's not incredibly big, it is comfortable, quiet, and has a nice view of the park across the street.
In the evenings, Marshall's Grandview in Columbus, Ohio perks up and hosts a diverse, fun, hip crowd, again, especially in summer on the patio (which is, by the way, friendly to smokers). They offer a huge selection of domestic and imported beers and have one of the best and busiest happy hours in the Grandview area of Columbus, Ohio. Generally, they seem to be the busiest around this happy hour and after 7 and until they close at 2:30 it is always somewhat busy. There are a lot of regulars at Marshall's Grandview, partially because of the great atmosphere minus the snobby feel you're likely to get at other area nightspots. Additionally, many people can easily walk to Marshall's Grandview, which is always a bonus. It makes it nice break from Byrne's and the Thirsty Ear, two other bars in the area with similar crowds.
One of the biggest reasons why Marshall's Grandview in Columbus, Ohio stands out as a nightlife spot in the area is because of it's incredibly stylish décor. It is almost out of place there in the almost strip-mall-esque stretch of First Avenue and usually takes newcomers by surprise. For instance, they have a giant koi fish pond that takes up the center of the bar. There's a little tube that the fish swim up and in through, taking them to the other side. There are clean pool tables and a lovely stainless-steel bar that is as long as half the bar area. The silver and blue mode is hip and modern without looking tacky or overdone, a brilliant achievement. Although they don't have a stage for live music, Marshall's Grandview is home to one of the best jukeboxes in Columbus, Ohio, with the exception (perhaps) being Skully's near campus.
In short, Marshall's Grandview in Columbus is an excellent place to go no matter what time of day. You can always get a drink (yes, even if it's first thing in the morning with your breakfast) and you can usually run into someone you know, especially if you live in the area around Marshall's. It is a breakfast institution, especially on Sundays, and is a great place to bring mom for brunch, only to come back later at happy hour, listen to some great music, drink underpriced domestics, and have a good time on the patio. It's a gem in Grandview and there is no wonder why it's been around for so long, jus tbe ready to walk because of the limited parking.
