Restaurant Review: Mary and John's Hamburger Shoppe

Tiffin, Ohio

Recently we decided to have a senior-matinee date. Mamma Mia was playing and the Matinee performance was very reasonable in price. The Queen Goddess wanted brunch before the show and knew just who to call for the best advice. Chuck, Seneca County's most knowledgeable feline, directed us to the place where breakfast is just like Mom made it...Great! Mary and John's Hamburger Shoppe is located at 234 S Sandusky St in Tiffin, Ohio. Give 'em a call @419-447-7957. Open hours are Monday through Friday 5am till 130pm Saturday 5am till 11am and Sunday 6am till 11am.

Mary and John have a delightful menu featuring many great sandwiches and daily specials. Today we wanted a brunch meal. Mom had taught me breakfast was the most important meal of the day and Dad had taught me a big brunch makes lunch unnecessary. Just one of the special décor items we noted was a sign. "If you are smoking in here, you had better be on fire" A little more classy than a "No Smoking" sign.

The Queen Goddess is a fan of plain eggs and crispy home fried potatoes covered in ketchup. The eggs were great the home fried potatoes were just like she loves them and the whole wheat toast was warm with lot's of grape jam to spread upon it. I however prefer the hearty brunch. This day I chose the sausage gravy over baking powder biscuits and a few home fried potatoes. The biscuits were close to the quality Mom made and the sausage gravy was almost as good as my Grandma's. The home fried potatoes were nicely browned and with a splash or two of tabasco enhanced the meal pleasantly.

We were off to the cinema for an afternoon of music and comedy. The movie was great. The Queen Goddess had saved room for a big bucket of popcorn with double butter. Yet still needed a Hot Fudge Sundae made with chocolate ice cream when we got home...

I must admit the young lady who served us at Mary and Johns didn't share her name and I forgot to ask. I can tell you she is an excellent server and has "Happy Eyes". Our brunch for two including coffee, sales tax, and a generous gratuity for "Happy Eyes" came to $12. If you get to Mary and John's before we return tell 'em Bubba and Bonnie sent ya... Mizpah
