Restaurant Review, Miami: Shinju Japanese Buffet and More

All You Can Eat, Japanese and Chinese

I love Oriental food, whether its Japanese, Chinese, Thai and even Vietnamese....so often when we get a craving for anything that falls in this category we head on over to Shinju Japanese Buffet located just a few miles from my house right down the street from Norman Brothers, our favorite market
They call it Japanese Buffet but they offer quite a big selection of Chinese food too.

The owner of the restaurant is usually on hand and always greets us in a very friendly manner, if there is a wait it's never long so we don't mind waiting...You can entertain yourself by watching one of the TV's on the walls in the nicely decorated and Oriental atmospheric area.

One of the things about Japanese food that appeals to me is the variety, but sometimes I never seen to feel like I've had enough...almost like my meal consisted of just appetizers, but in Shinju, with the Chinese food included, a full meal awaits.

The extensive choices are so varied, everything from soups, 2 different kinds of Chinese, Wonton and Egg drop and the Japanese Miso soup are offered, next to the ribs, Lo mein, chop suey, seafood and chicken dishes, I always enjoy loading up of the spring rolls, pot stickers and fried rice, non of which are greasy.
I love the Mussels, often prepared in different ways and the variety of Shrimp dishes.

On the other side of the big dining room is the Sushi bar...there are always 2-4 Sushi chefs constantly cutting and chopping away, creating new and delicious Japanese concoctions...to mention a few:
California rolls, Volcanoes, Dynamite rolls, Eel rolls, Salmon rolls and different kinds of Sashimi...a very big variety to appeal to all who come to this counter hungry...they also have a variety of different flavors of Wasabi and even soy sauce that is Low Sodium for those who prefer to eat less salt

In the back part of the restaurant is a Hibachi grill that is always sizzling with a chef who will prepare what you order fresh on the spot...they offer, NY Strip Steaks, Tempura and quite a few Stir Fry varieties..

But it seems the most popular item, that people especially come to Shinju for, are the Alaskan King Crab legs...huge long legs at that and they are constantly refilling the serving platters since they disappear almost immediately as they come out of the kitchen. We always keep an eye on the kitchen so we can be first and foremost when the crabs come out

The serving tables, sushi bar and back grill are always impeccably clean which is one huge plus in my book!

If all that food isn't enough, they have a terrific dessert bar, with 3-4 varieties of ice cream and delicious toppings of your choice...also on the dessert menu are Lychee nuts, cookies, pineapples and assorted pastries....those pastries I'm not to crazy about so I stick to the ice cream and the Lychee nuts...I love those fruity nuts.

All in all, I recommend Shinju Japanese Buffet very highly to all who want the taste of the Orient with a big variety and a not too big of a price tag.

The prices seem fair for all they offer.

Weekdays: Monday-Thursday, hours, 5- 10:00 PM, at a cost of $16.95 for adults and $8.95 for children 10 and under...

Weekends: $18.95 for adults, the cost for children is the same price as weekdays.

Lunch: from 11:30 -3:30 at $8.95 for adults, $10.95 on weekends. Children $6.95...

i was excited to go into shinju for the first time, but when i got there, i was disapointed. the price was higher than other buffets, the fish was warm in the rolls, and my server was rude. her voice was deep and strong, and was rushing me to finish my food so she can have another table. back to the food, the pieces of fish were small and rice was dried. the restaurant is beautiful but not the food

Unbelievable. My coworkers and I had lunch there this afternoon and it was packed. We always come in about few times a week for our 1 hour break. Normally, there is a lunch rush and a long wait to get a table but we are always seated within the few minutes of waiting. When there is a table open, customers get seated right away. So we were waiting at the booths in the front and big parties kept being seated at the front section but surprisingly they were moving quickly so there were opened tables.. but the hostess were bringing people to the other side. Now this doesn't make sense. I asked the hostess why can't we get seated when there are tables open, she gave us a confused look and told us she doesn't know and that we have to ask the manager. What? Are you serious? What kind of business are they running here? In the end, we finally got our table but we were not happy. Although the food is good, I'm not sure we would be coming back here again.

I am also a regular at Shinju and usually receive good service but last night when I came in for dinner with a friend of mine, the service was far from good. The waitress that we had nancy was VERY rude, plus there was no smile. Also what has DISGUSTED me the most are the flies that were flying around the tables! It was disgusting, I couldn't even eat anymore. I always come in at least twice a week as a dedicated customer. I have mentioned my experience to the hostess, I HOPE actions are being taken place.

I am a regular in this restaurant and the food is great and the service is usually very superb.BUT...Friday..My service was horrible!!!!!!!!!!!The server passed my table ignored me when i asked for more water! I asked her several times, but she just didnt care! Finally another server passed by and I asked her to refill my water. When my server came she asked me "how was everything" and i had to tell her "not good, you gave me horrible service and the other waitress had to refill my water not you"! i had to wait at least 20 mins before i saw my actual server. When i glanced at the check i saw her name was Krystal. I love this food, but i will never want to have her as my server again!

I had a guest a few months ago, and I took him to this restaurant. We are not familiar with japanese foods, but we ate. When it is time to have a cake, he found a long hain in his cake. It was such a disgusting moment. You want to eat something, and foods contain hair. What do you feel? We called manager, and he said it is not our problem, we are sorry. My friend told me "is it that simple?at least they could not get money for it" they made $5 deduction. After food my friend was too angry with me, and told me how i could allow them to charge for it. He was right. You run a restaurant and the most important point is the cleaning of your restaurant and foods. I wanted to tell you, these guys should learn some ethics how to deal with such problems...

I work at Ramblewood Square Plaza and frequently eat at the Shinju there. I can attest to the cleanliness and freshness of the food in addition to high quality of the food and the service. The seafood is very fresh and expertly prepared, not to mention delicious. I highly recommend Shinju if you like sushi and/or sashimi. The Chinese selections are fewer than you would find at a a Chinese buffet but are plentiful enough if you just go for that. I love the Miso soup and the crab legs most but I've never eaten anything there I didn't like. This is our restaurant of choice when we go out alone or invite others to dinner. 5 stars out of 5. You can't beat it for value.

I just ate at the Shinju in Davie on University yesterday, that place is amazing! only $25 for the two of us for lunch with hot tea and tip. Great sushi made constantly, I hardly even got round to the soups and meats! People were friendly, good atmosphere and decorations, clean place and fresh food. Definitely going again!
