This small restaurant is a delicious taste of true Kansas City BBQ flavors. The restaurant is conspicuously located in a small strip mall and it was started by two guys who used to do contests all over the US for their tasty BBQ. Now they have created two restaurants that showcase their delectable talents. The second restaurant is a gas station building that they renovated creating a great ambiance for customers.

The restaurant is not large and definitely not gourmet. The inside is also usually very busy so it can get cramped. The booths are plastic and put in close to all the other tables which is really one only negative I see. However most people are willing to forgo comfort for the delicious food and the low prices. Lunch time prices are as low as $4.00 but average is $6.00 - $7.00. Dinner can get more expensive a full rack of ribs can be around $17.00 however this is still cheaper than many BBQ restaurants in town.

The food ranges from pulled pork sandwiches to ribs. Brisket, and chicken. They also have salads for the health conscious and catering for in office events. One of their specialties is the smoked chicken gumbo, spicy, smoky, and a definite have to try. The sauce they use is tangy and sweet not as molasses based as some of the sauces used in other KC BBQ. You can choose the portion size allowing kids and adults to find the right size meal.

Another great facet of the restaurant is that they sell BBQ Sauce, T-Shirts, and their spice rubs for take home, allowing you to create the same great flavors at home. You can also go to their website and order gift baskets of BBQ fixings for all the grillers at home. Their BBQ sauce has won many awards specifically the best sauce on the planet in 2001.

This is a great restaurant for BBQ, my best suggestion would be to pick up the food to go and eat at home if you are looking for comfort and a place to sit and talk since there never seems to be a time to go and eat when it isn't swamped with customers. Oklahoma Joe's is a definite example of the excellent BBQ in Kansas City.

Johnson County KS is a great place to live.
It has great schools, businesses and thriving housing market.
Here is a great site that I use to find Johnson County Businesses, jobs, classified etc www.johnsoncountyinformer.com
The thing I like best is that it is totally free to everyone (businesses and users).
    Hope this helps

    Not a very accutate review.

Although OK Joe's is good BBQ, it isn't representative of Kansas City BBQ - which was suggested in the review.

Also it is possibly the largest BBQ restaurant in the region. Not "The restaurant is not large" as reported in the review.

Also the gas station location was open for many years before this one, not the other way around.
