Piratz Tavern in Silver Springs, Maryland is a local bar and restaurant two blocks from Downtown Silver Springs and the AFI Theater. It serves traditional bar food and drinks with a pirate twist. The staff wears the very best pirate attire and also never breaks character. If you enjoy theme restaurants for all ages then you'll enjoy Piratz Bar.

Atmosphere

The walls are lined with swords, flags, and other pirate swag from the seven seas. The dining area is separated from the bar in the back by a short hallway and the bathrooms. Classic pirate songs fill the air and the staff will often join in with a, "Yo ho ho!" The bathrooms are clean and continue the theme with reprinted classic maps on the wall. Everything is wooden and looks like it was pulled right from the bowels of an old ship. Its family friendly and the pirates will entertain and delight even your youngest. Usually the bar is empty save for the regulars who nerd out with the staff over important matters like Ninjas vs Pirates or comic book trivia.

The bar area has a small flat screen TV that is usually off. If the bar is dead you can usually sweet talk them into turning it on. The back patio is for smokers and during the day the sun will fry you out there. You can also exit out the back gate if you're being chased by the law or need to avoid someone after your treasure.

Food/Drink

The food isn't great and if it doesn't sound like it would be good from a bar it probably isn't. I got a fruit and cheese plate one time and it was covered in chocolate syrup. So stick to the fried food and bar favorites.

You can get all the usual cocktails, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks along with pirate favorites like Heavy Seas Beer and Grog. Grog is a traditional pirate drink to decontaminate water and ward off scurvy. Today the tavern makes it with double the kick and a much better taste than the sea fairing version. One of the pirates also assured me, "It's the cheapest drunk we got." I declined to take a full glass, but a half glass gave me my sea legs just fine.

Service

The service is fast and friendly. If you need something just yell, and they'll come a running.

Cost

It's a bit pricy like most things in Silver Springs, but you're paying for the environment more than the beer. Grog is your best bet for drunk, but you'll hate yourself in the morning.

Other

They have an all you can eat Sunday brunch from 12-4 every week. It features traditional breakfast favorites and also some hearty rib sticking lunch food. You get the choices between a Mimosa or a Bloody Marry with purchase.

Hooka is also available, but please ask for availability.
