Restaurant Review: Pizzafari in Disney World

Pizzafari is a pizza jungle themed restaurant located near the entrance to Camp Minnie Mickey in the Discovery Island hub land of Animal Kingdom. The restaurant like many of the Disney World restaurants is one where you order, get your food, and then take it to your table to eat. Thus the service is somewhat minimal. The main service involved here is at the cashier. As is characteristic of most Disney experiences the cashiers were friendly. Further even during the busy lunch time the food was quickly prepared. Lastly, the service relating to the bussing of tables was wonderfully quick with the tables being constantly cleaned as people left, but also not done in a way that made you feel you were being rushed out of there.

Now one thing to note is that this place can get very busy at lunch time with it being a popular spot for getting food for kids, as pizza is a popular dish to satisfy the young ones. From my experience hitting this place for an early lunch around 11am is the best thing to do. It is before the lunch crowd comes on most days. If you do hit it during the lunch crowd, which we did on one occasion, tables do tend to continuously clear up and they are quickly bussed and cleaned up by cast members, so although it may be a little wait for a table it is often not long and it is usually clean.

The décor of the restaurant went with the nature theme of Animal Kingdom. The place was colorfully decorated with a wood look throughout. The feel actually reminded me of the way the buildings were constructed at the safari camps I stayed at while on safari in South Africa. It was of course much better decorated with my favorite décor being the colorful bugs on the area that contained the trashcans.

The food itself was not spectacular, but it was tasty enough to enjoy. The main food option is of course pizza, which is available in plain cheese and pepperoni style. They also have breadsticks, which my 12-year-old bread lover brother enjoyed, but he says that even the big name pizza delivery companies like Pizza Hut make better ones. Another item traditional to a pizza place that is on the menu is Caesar Salad with Chicken. Lastly they also offer hot Italian-style sandwiches, which are surprisingly good and a somewhat unique thing to order.

The price is not all that cheap, but then again you are in a theme park and food just is not cheap in a theme park. The cost is about $10 per person depending on what you get, but that is about most entrees with a drink come up to.
