Restaurant Review: Quiznos Subs

Kathleen McDade
Quiznos Subs has been claiming to have better subs than Subway because their subs are toasted. Subway, in turn has begun offering toasted subs in order to compete.

I've never been particularly interested in toasted subs anyway, because I'm not a big fan of melted cheese on my food. It's one of my very few food weirdnesses. So I've been happy to continue eating regular Subway sandwiches.

Today, a friend and I were at a training workshop, and one of the nearby choices for lunch was Quiznos. We discovered that neither of us had ever been to Quiznos, so we decided to give it a try, melted cheese and all.

We walked in to the restaurant to find a very pleasing menu selection, including sandwiches, salads, soups, and even bread bowls containing soup. The sandwiches all sounded like delicious combinations, including prime rib on garlic bread, and mesquite chicken with bacon subs.

Sandwiches come in small, regular and large sizes. My friend asked how big the small sandwich was, and the employee behind the counter replied, "About four and half inches." She went with that, but being hungry, I thought that was a bit small, and decided to go with the regular size, which turned out to be two of the small sandwiches. I can't imagine ordering a large!

I ordered the turkey, bacon and guacamole sub, with all the trimmings. It cost $6.79; you can make it a meal (with chips and a fountain drink) for an additional $1.99. I opted to simply purchase a bottle of water, making up for my sandwich greediness.

The sub was perfectly toasted. Quiznos puts mayonnaise, meat, tomatoes and onions on the sandwich before it's toasted, and lettuce afterward. They deliver your sub to you on top of wax paper, and inside a re-usable plastic dish (which you leave with your tray when you're done). You can then add special sauces, pickles, and peppers yourself at a condiment bar.

The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The bread was toasted and crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. Bacon was warm and crisp, and the cheese (mozzarella) was soft, warm and delicious without being rubbery. The combination of turkey, bacon, and guacamole was delicious as always, and the sandwich was well-filled and moist without being sloppy.

Our meal was a little more expensive than a comparable meal at Subway, but the sandwiches and other menu items are a little more on the premium side as well. Some of the Quiznos subs are considered "premium" as well, like the prime rib sandwiches, and these subs cost a little more than the others.

The service was excellent also; employees were friendly and helpful, and the food was ready quickly.

Overall, Quiznos subs are a little expensive for every day, but they are definitely tasty, and worth the money to treat yourself once in a while.

It's hard to go there, when our local Subway does a much better job and is cheaper.

We don't have those in my country, and I'm a sandwich freak! Arrrgh.

the only time i went to quiznos I got some sort of roast beef sandwich, the roast beef did not look like beef. It looked like rotten flesh that had been chopped in a blender for a bit. It was absolutely horrible, I could not even finish the sandwich because looking at it made me want to vomit. Im glad it worked for you, but I will never be going to quiznos again.

My kids love Quiznos when we can't find a Subway.

We love Quiznos ~ their "clam chowder in a bread bowl" is to die for :)
    Great review, Kathleen!
