Restaurant Review - Smokey Bones BBQ in Fenton, MO

Terry Edwards
Recently, our family had the pleasure of eating at Smokey Bones BBQ in Fenton, MO. As the name implies, Smokey Bones BBQ serves up all types of barbequed meats and side dishes. There are several reasons why our family enjoyed our experience at Smokey Bones.

The outside of Smokey Bones is quite pleasant to look at. With its rustic accents of old time country lanterns hanging from the log cabin like exterior; it gives off a wonderful nostalgic look.

The inside is a little different though. There you will find several large screen TV's that all have the latest sports games on them. In fact, every booth has there own channel selector and volume control in order for you to find the game of your choice if you wish.

We came here on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was comfortably filled, but not packed. We were told that during busy times like the weekends, a wait of 30 minutes is not uncommon. You may want to keep that in mind.

We were immediately seated and handed our menus. Smokey Bones has all of the usual BBQ fare such as baby back ribs, pulled pork, barbecued chicken, beef brisket, etc. I decided on a combination platter or ribs and chicken that also includes two sides. It was only $15. So, I chose the baked beans and cole slaw. Meals also include Texas toast as well.

I really like the old wooden style booths that this restaurant includes. Combined with the country theme it makes for a nice homestyle feeling. Which brings up another point; Smokey Bones is definitely kid friendly. So, you don't need to worry about bringing them and interrupting anyone's meal. The restaurant itself was clean and uncluttered. You could tell the staff takes some pride in their work.

Within 20 minutes our food arrived at our table. What you immediately notice is the lack of barbeque sauce on your food. This is because at Smokey Bones, you have your choice of 3 different flavors of barbeque sauce to put on yourself. All 3 of them are good, but the Carolina mustard style sauce can be a fooler. It may not look that good, but wait until you taste it.

My chicken was cooked perfectly. It had a thin crispy skin that was not burnt, and the inside was not greasy. The baby back ribs practically melt in your mouth. The baked beans had a nice sweet taste from the brown sugar they add which suited me fine. Our waitress asked if we wanted desert, but there was no way I had any more room.

Pros

Good service
Great food
Kid friendly

Cons

Can be busy at times
Noisy atmosphere when busy

I would definitely recommend going to Smokey Bones in Fenton, MO if you enjoy good barbeque. I don't think you will be disappointed.
