Restaurant Review Sony Berry's Bayshore Supper Club

Oregon, Ohio

Bubba
Spring has sprung and there is green fauna everywhere. The Queen Goddess wanted to take a Saturday afternoon drive to put some beauty into our lives. We headed towards Maumee Bay State Park for some wonderful Spring beauty. Enjoying the scenic drive we chatted about memories of this area from our youth. The Queen Goddess remembered a restaurant from forty years ago that had wonderful food. Since we were in the area we decided to see if they were still in business. Good News! Sonny Berry's Bayshore Supper Club is still at 5307 Bayshore Rd. in Oregon Ohio. Y'all can call them at 419-698-8106 The Bayshore Supper Club is open Monday through Saturday from 8am till 10pm.

Entering the dining room I noted a family atmosphere. They have white cloth tablecloths, white cloth napkins, flowers on the table, a beautiful fresh relish plate, a basket of crackers, and a million dollar view of the bay. Mr Berry claims the Tilapia is the same fish Jesus fed the multitudes in the loaves and the fishes parable. "I can't guarantee you'll like the fish, but I will guarantee you'll go to heaven (if you eat it.)" The Tilapia is available both broiled and deep fried. I'm not sure how Jesus cooked his. Y'all will have to ask Mr Berry.

The big attraction at the Bayshore is their seafood. Many of you know for twenty-six years I was with the Old Wagner's Country Inn in Fremont. Ohio We served over a ton of perch, pickerel, and frog legs annually, so I do know good fresh fish when I taste it. Their selection here is great!!

Tonight the Queen Goddess decided she wanted a steak. Her choice was a huge T-Bone steak done to perfection, and even had a bone for our puppy. The salad was cold and crisp and came with a deviled egg. She tried the homemade sweet and sour dressing which was delightful. She also enjoyed the steamed California blend of vegetables cooked to perfection.

Becky our server was very efficient but couldn't make the decision for me. I made a choice to have the frog legs. Becky said they were hopping good and I agree. I haven't eaten frog legs since we locked the doors in 1992. They were succulent morsels so tender and full of the special flavor only good frog legs have to offer. Lightly breaded and done to a perfect golden brown. I too enjoyed the steamed California blend of vegetables. I chose the Blue Cheese salad dressing and it was a delightful surprise being very thick with real blue cheese. The deviled egg was almost as good as the ones the Queen Goddess makes.... Hold your fork the best is yet to come.

The difficult part of writing this column is choosing which dessert to try. The Queen Goddess chose the Maple Aple Pie ala mode. It is an apple pie with a maple top crust and a very good quality ice cream. MMMM good.

We had a delightful dinner for two including dessert, coffee, sales tax and a generous gratuity for Becky for just under $50. So if you are along the North Coast and hungry, look up Sonny Berry's Bayshore Supper Club. If we're not there tell 'em Bubba and Bonnie sent ya. PS. there are several "Senior Anglers" choices on the menue as well as daily evening specials. We're going back Monday for the Fresh Perch...Mizpah ;-}}>
