Steak Street has been an area favorite for quite a while, preferred for both business lunches and celebration dinners. We found it delightful for a family lunch, as well!
The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We were seated and served almost immediately. Steak Street has a lovely ambiance, with iron gates, rosebushes, and twinkling lights. Although both indoor and outdoor seating are available, wherever you sit, it's like eating in a relaxing garden.
We started off with bowls of soup ($6) - We tried both the French Onion and Crab & Corn Bisque. Both were excellent, and I would heartily recommend either as a light, in-a-hurry but still elegant lunch.
Most lunch entrees cost between $10 and $14 and have a New Orleans/Cajun flair. My mother in law had Grilled Salmon with mashed potatoes, Ken had Shrimp & Grits, and I chose the Jambalaya. The price may seem a bit high for lunch, but the portions and quality make up for it. We each took a portion home for midnight snacking! Each meal was exquisitely prepared, spiced but not spicy, and absolutely delicious.
Adding to the "garden" atmosphere, each plate had a perfect orchid at the center. Our waiter told us they were edible. I ate a few bites... different, but not bad!
For dessert, we split an order of fried cheesecake. Perfectly prepared, with a hint of cinnamon, drizzled with chocolate and caramel, served with whipped cream and ice cream... it was BLISS in a bowl. Most of the desserts cost between $8 and $10 but again... well worth the cost.
When we mentioned to the waiter that it's Ken's birthday, he smiled and disappeared. He came back a few minutes later with a gift for him: a jewelry-style box with two gorgeous handcrafted candies from a place called Chocolate Fetish. If it wasn't his birthday, I'd have stolen them!
All in all, Steak Street is a great place for lunch and dinner. Check them out at 3915 Sedgebrook Street, High Point, NC 27265-8703. The number is (336) 841-0222, and you can view their website at steakstreet.com
If you are coming from I-40, you'll want to get off the Eastchester/68 exit and turn toward High Point - the restaurant will be a couple miles down the road on the right.
Enjoy!
