Sushi Ya is tiny - it is literally one room. There is a bar, a sushi bar, and several small tables. We normally always sit at the sushi bar as it is a great, entertaining lunch treat to watch your sushi be prepared by hand. They offer any type of sushi roll that you could crave - California, Rainbow, Caterpillar (eel), etc. Dinner time prices are typical for sushi at an average of $15.00 a roll, but they offer many half-priced rolls during the lunch hours. They also offer several lunch combinations for $15.00 and less that include pieces of several types of sushi rolls.
Or, if you are not a sushi fan but are craving something different than that burrito from Taco Bell, they also grill several teriyaki options - steak, chicken, shrimp, and salmon. As a lunch order, these items all run under $10.00. I highly recommend ordering a garden salad with their house dressing, or an order of fried rice.
If you are like me and can not decide whether you want sushi or a grilled entrée, I would suggest ordering from the Lunch Box Bento options. I normally order the Sushiya I; this comes with a grilled, teriyaki chicken breast (or, whatever meat you choose), a small house salad, rice, and four pieces of a California rolls. It is plenty of food to fill up anyone at lunch time. Or, if you think you need a little bit extra, there are other box options with a bit more food (soups, extra sides, etc.)
Sushi Ya is a fun restaurant for a lunch in Downtown Dallas, especially if you have other sushi-loving co-workers. Go with a few co-workers, order different types of appetizers and sushi rolls, and split them amongst everyone. Be forewarned though that they are usually quite busy, so you may spend some time waiting on a table, and then once seated, waiting on your food. If you are in a hurry, I would highly suggest ordering to-go (www.sushiyadallas.com). But, if you have a chance to get away from the office and have a relaxing, enjoyable lunch, Sushi Ya is a welcome change to all of the fast food in the area.
