Restaurant Review: Tako Sushi in Forest Hills, NY

A good Japanese restaurant is hard to find, especially one that has good sushi. Tako Sushi on Austin Street in Forest Hills, NY is a great Japanese sushi restaurant that will leave you feeling cultured in Japanese food and trying food out of the ordinary.

Tako Sushi is at first hard to find unless of course you know where to look. On Austin Street in Forest Hills, there are rows and rows of stores. Tako Sushi is located on the basement level of a 3 floor-shopping row. In order to get to the restaurant, you will need to go down a flight of stairs. The best way of finding Tako Sushi is to keep your eyes peeled on the street signs, which will show the restaurant name with an arrow pointing down toward the staircase.

Tako sushi has a traditional sushi bar in which the sushi chef makes the food right in front of you. There are chairs to sit down and watch the chef prepare your food as well. Tako Sushi has a wide variety of sushi to order from including salmon, tuna, California rolls, veggie rolls, shrimp and various other types of rolls. The sushi rolls are compact, tight and moist, making them great to eat. Tako sushi offers varying amount of sushi to order from including a 6 piece or 12 piece set and a basket sushi containing 3 or more different types of sushi, big enough for 3 people to split and eat.

My favorite part about Tako Sushi is that you don't always have to get raw fish. For people who don't like or don't want to have sushi, you can order cooked fish. They have a very good cooked salmon platter and chicken platter; both of which are served with grilled vegetables. Rice also comes with most sushi and cooked fish dinners.

Tako Sushi gives its customers chopsticks to eat with, although for customers who have difficulty eating with them, they can request a simple fork.

Prices are very reasonable at Tako Sushi. Cooked fish platters are about $15. Sushi platters cost less than $10.

As for parking, it is almost impossible. I highly recommend taking public transportation or walking to the restaurant. If you absolutely have to drive to the restaurant, you will end up parking more than 10 blocks away.

Tako Sushi usually doesn't get that crowded which is nice because it allows you to sit down and take your time eating your room. When you sit down you are given snow peas for an appetizer, which are little green veggies with chewable seeds in them. Altogether, the food and service are very good at a great price.
