Restaurant Review: T.G.I. Fridays in Washington, DC

Angelie MacKenzie
My friend and I went to the Holocaust museum during our trip to D.C. to see a play at the Shakespeare Theatre last July. Not knowing what restaurants were in D.C., we asked a security guard at the museum. She named a few restaurants, but most were none that I had ever heard of. Then she said that nearby was a T.G.I. Fridays. While I had never eaten there before, I had heard of them and I had been wanting to give them a try. So, we hailed a taxi and went to T.G.I. Fridays.

We were seated immediately and asked what we would like to drink. The restaurant was so causal, that there were people eating outside. It certainly was a nice day for it. After the waiter brought our beverages, we ordered. I ordered a side salad and the 12 ounce New York strip steak with the lively burgundy butter sauce and broccoli. And my friend ordered the sizzling chicken and cheese with mashed potatoes.

My salad had crisp lettuce and the other vegetables in it tasted as if they had just been picked off the vine. And that mustard vinegar (something like that) dressing that I asked for was excellent. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium and the broccoli didn't taste old. The whole meal was very good. My friend loved his chicken so much that he ate all of it. The waiter never let our glasses become empty either. This restaurant certainly knows how to take care of people.

I looked at the dessert menu, but I was a bit full and all I really wanted was a little vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. However, that wasn't an option on the menu. I asked the waiter if they could make that for me and then figure out a price to charge. He brought me the best vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup that I've ever had. That syrup was probably melted chocolate as opposed to something like Hershey's syrup. And he didn't charge me for it either. That was really nice of him.

We figured that hailing a taxi in the dark might be a bit difficult. So, we asked the waiter about calling us one to return to the hotel. Instead of calling, the manager came over, went outside with us, and got us a taxi.

There is a T.G.I. Fridays local to me. And I have eaten there once as well. But nothing compares to the T.G.I. Fridays in Washington, D.C. I hope to eat there again the next time I go to D.C. I highly recommend this restaurant, they treat the customers like royalty and the food is delicious.

I have to admit, the bit about the broccoli was written as a comparison to my review of Outback. i told the waitress that the broccoli tasted old and she argued with me. But yeah, i was very impressed with the T.G.I. Fridays in DC :)

I like how you said the broccoli wasn't even old. That's good that the waiter went above and beyond his duties, that is far better than any food service. It's a good thing he did, DC is rowdy.
