Restaurant Review - Trailhead Brewing Co. in St. Charles, MO

Located in historic downtown St. Charles, MO is the Trailhead Brewing Company. This wonderful restaurant and onsite brewery has become a very popular spot in the area. Recently, my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Trailhead and have dinner.

When you first pull up to Trailhead Brewing Company it reminds you of an old 2 story brick schoolhouse. But when you walk inside it's like you are in a different place altogether. It's very unique in design with a bar area on one floor and a restaurant on the other. There is also an area filled with brewing equipment like you would see at Anheiser-Busch. Trailhead Brewing actually brews 6 different types of beer right there onsite.

We came on a Monday night and I am glad we did. The bar area was packed, as was the restaurant area, but we only had a 10 minute wait. I understand that on the weekends it is not uncommon to have an hour wait, so you may want to plan accordingly. Although children are more than welcome, this is probably not the best place to take them, especially on a weekend.

The inside of the restaurant is filled with wooden tables and booths, along with a unique wood ceiling. It gives it an old rustic look of years gone by so to speak. Our waitress was polite and quickly gave us menus and took our drink order.

The menu has all types of American fare to choose from as well as many appetizers and other specialty items. I decided on a burger this night with BBQ sauce and red onions. My wife picked the barbequed chicken. The atmosphere at the Trailhead is noisy at times. But with so many people there it is little wonder why. So it's not a romantic restaurant in that sense. I guess you could say it is more on the line of a TGI Fridays on a Friday night. I was impressed with how the restaurant was so clean and well kept. Nice to see how the service staff takes pride in keeping it that way.

After just under 30 minutes our order arrived at our table. My burger was very thick and piled high with onions, barbeque sauce and other fixings. It was on a plate surrounded by french fries that tasted crisp and delicious. Because of how thick it was I needed to cut it in half! One bite and I was hooked. I can highly recommend any type of burger at Trailhead Brewing Company.

My wife's barbequed chicken was just as delicious. With its thin skin and the wonderful flavor of the sweet tasting barbeque sauce, it was prepared very well. Our waitress came back a couple of different times to see if we needed anything or if we wanted desert. If anyone can eat desert after having so much food for dinner, then you are special indeed. We were stuffed. With tip, our bill for the night was less than $30. Not a bad deal for the quality of food and great atmosphere.

Pros

Good food
Friendly service

Cons

Busy, especially on weekends
Noisy at times

All in all, on a scale of 1-10, I would rate the Trailhead Brewing Company in St. Charles, MO an 8. If you are in the area I would recommend giving them a try, especially if you enjoy micro brews and various flavors of beer.
