Restaurant Review - Vin Hoa Chop Suey

One of the places I like to frequent for lunch during the work week is Vin Hoa Chop Suey in Granite City, Illinois. This small restaurant serves up Chinese food made to order. There are several reasons why I enjoy eating at Vin Hoa.

Eating lunch at Vin Hoa Chop Suey is a treat I enjoy for lunch during my busy work week. This restaurant has been in Granite City, IL for a while now and has a full menu of available items. You can dine in or carry out if you wish. What I did on this visit was call in my order and dined in when I arrived.

Vin Hoa is a small restaurant with approximately 10 tables on the inside. The bulk of their business is carry out that caters to the lunch crowd of small businesses in town. Although it was busy I was able to get a table without a problem. I had called in my order of General Tao's Chicken with an egg roll and side of fried rice.

My order was immediately brought to my table by the friendly folks who work there. I say friendly because they always say hello and strive to be sure you are completely satisfied.

The plate they brought out was filled with General Tao's chicken. It is hard to describe how much food they serve. If you enjoy a mildly spicy sweet tasting sauce, then you need to try this menu item. My food was served piping hot and tasted great. The egg roll was crunchy, but not burnt. I can't tell you how many times I have eaten other egg rolls that were either soggy or cooked for too long. This was not the case here.

My waiter came back to refill my iced tea without having to be asked on more than one occasion. The total for my lunch with tip was less than $10.

Although there is not a lot of atmosphere at Van Hoa Chop Suey, it is a very clean restaurant. It is also fun to watch them keep up with all the orders that are constantly being called in.

Pros:

Great food
Friendly staff
Good value

Cons:

Small sit in area
Not much atmosphere
Busy restaurant with the phone ringing constantly

The bottom line: If you enjoy Chinese food then Van Hoa Chop Suey will leave you with a full stomach and a smile on your face. I would highly recommend them for lunch.
