When we pulled up to Whiskey Creek we immediately knew we were in for a treat. We could smell the aroma of fresh barbeque in the parking lot. When we stepped inside we were warmly greeted by the hostess who showed us to our table without a wait. That was a nice change from what we have been experiencing. It may be due to our eating here on a Wednesday night. I'm told that Whiskey Creek gets very busy on weekends.
Something different that you will notice here is the fact that a bucket of peanuts can be found on every table. When you eat your peanuts you simply throw the empty shells on the floor. They say it makes them unique, as well as making cleanup a little easier. Strange nonetheless.
The menu at Whiskey Creek is large. You can find soups, sandwiches, burgers, seafood and their signature line of steaks and barbeque items. They also have a kids menu as well.
I decided on the half slab of Baby Back Ribs of $11.98. The order comes complete with honey cornbread and your choice of 2 side items. I chose the baked beans and a baked potato. My wife ordered the barbeque chicken. It is a half chicken that is slow roasted with barbeque sauce and also included 2 side items. All for only $9.99.
We also decided on having an appetizer of their new Southwest Tootsie Rolls. Similar to an egg roll, they contain shrimp, cream cheese, chives and come with a chipotle lime barbeque sauce to dip them in. To say we enjoyed them would be an understatement.
The inside of Whiskey Creek is outfitted in all wood. From the tables and booths, to the walls and floors. The atmosphere was good and despite the peanuts shells on the floor, the restaurant was very clean and well kept.
Our order was brought out in less than 20 minutes. Served on large platters, I was surprised at the generous portions we were served. The ribs looked great and tasted even better. The meat was falling off the bone. They were coated with a sweet barbeque sauce that had an excellent flavor to it. Whiskey Creek also gives you a choice of 3 different sauces to use; their normal sweet barbeque sauce, a honey mustard type sauce and a hot sauce. I didn't need to use any of them on my ribs. It was perfect the way they were.
The baked beans also had a sweet brown sugar taste to them as well. The baked potato was served steaming hot and quite good. The same can be said for my wife's barbeque chicken. There was so much meat that she couldn't eat it all. As for desert, there simply was no more room for it!
Pros
Excellent food
Good service
Good prices
No waiting on our visit
Cons
Can be noisy and crowded on weekends
All in all I would have to say that Whiskey Creek Wood Fire Grill in St. Joseph, MO is a top pick for barbeque and steak. The food and the value are excellent. I would encourage anyone to give this restaurant a try.

Post a CommentThe best part is putting the peanut shells on the floor. My wife has such a problem doing this. My son and I often irritate her by sweeping her shells onto the floor while she is not looking. One day I foresee her asking for a broom with which she can sweep the shells. She really needs to learn to relax.
But it is the best steak in St. Joseph.
I love the Branding Iron steak. Flavor is delicious. Cost $9.95 plus sides. Recently had a 64 wedding anniversary there is side room. They have the best and friendliest waiters in town. Good place to eat.
Had a great pulled pork sandwich today and my friend had the brisket. Flavor by the mouthful! It is still just like you say in your review, so I won't duplicate. Our server , Rey, was very courteousas was Brandon, the manager. I will be back!
