Restaurant Review: Whole in the Wall in Binghamton, New York

If you are in the Southern Tier in New York and are looking for a place to eat that is informal, yet still a great place to bring family, friends or a date, look no further than Whole in the Wall restaurant in Binghamton, New York.

Whole in the Wall restaurant is hard to find from the outside but is located right outside the #5 Restaurant which has a giant sign on its restaurant building. The sign is visible from the Vestal Parkway from a distance. Whole in the Wall restaurant is very much like its name suggests. The restaurant is small and has wooden benches with a small amount of waiters and waitresses. However, the restaurant has the distinct smell of friendliness and hospitality that makes people come back again and again. The interesting thing is that on weekdays it isn't usually that crowded. However, on Friday and Saturday nights, the place can get packed.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment that most first time customers have is the relatively small size of the food portions. The first time I ate at the restaurant, I ordered a cod fish and was surprised at the small size of the fish in a very tasty lemon sauce. However, to be fair to the restaurant, their dinner meals are about $12-$15 and they give you a soup and a salad with your meal. Unfortunately, dessert and coffee or soda is not included with the price of your meal. You usually won't come away stuffed after eating at Whole in the Wall but you'll never feel hungry afterword.

The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice as it is filled with decorations. It is not a romantic type-feeling restaurant if that is what you were looking for. Perhaps the best setting the restaurant is utilized, is for friends to go and have a meal. The food comes out at about average pace, but since you get a soup and a salad, you will usually have food in front of you.

The restaurant menu is a little small, but there is still enough food choices for everyone to find something that they like. There is a parking section next to the restaurant, which makes it very convenient for customers since there is no side street parking. In my past experiences eating at the restaurant, the service has always been top notch and the prices, as I referred to earlier, is quite reasonable and well worth the money you will pay.

One of their most famous dishes is their Mediterranean dish, which includes pita bread with humus and tahini dressing. The platter is very tasty although if you don't like Mediterranean dishes I would not recommend it. They also have great chicken and fish dishes.

If you are looking for a great tasting restaurant in the Southern Tier that is not your normal corporate chain restaurant, look no further than Whole in the Wall Restaurant.
