Wild Awakenings is an OK coffee shop on McAllister Street in the Civic Center area of San Francisco, near City Hall and next to the Hastings College of Law.

The place is surprisingly big for a Tenderloin coffee shop, fairly spacious with a lot of tables and a kind of dark and dank section in the back with sofas and stuffed chairs. They mostly deal in coffee/pastry, but seem to also do some sandwiches and Irish food as well.

The coffee was a touch higher in price than the average ($1.35 for a small cup instead of the expected $1.00 to $1.25). It's OK coffee, but nothing particularly remarkable. Prices for more complex coffee drinks are likewise about 10 to 25 cents higher than the general city average. For the money you don't get any particular better quality, but it may be worth it just to have a decent place to sit down while you enjoy your beverage - most coffee shops in the area are small, cramped and (this being the Tenderloin) full of characters you'd rather not share close quarters with.

If you live nearby, or happen to be in the area for work or school, it's not a bad place to stop. There wasn't anything here that I'd go out of my way for, however.
