Restaurant Reviews: Betty's of Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Perfect for Those in the Mood for Something Different

John Galt
What is a college student to do? The cafeteria provides only bland and boring food on a daily basis, and there is no method of transportation, nor energy, to travel very far to seek out better food. For students at Kutztown University, however, a solution to the boring can be found very easily, with just a simple walk down Main Street. That solution is known as Betty's, and for those who don't feel like walking, they even make deliveries.

However, what is it that makes Betty's such a good place to eat? The answer begins to form itself as soon as one approaches the front door. The outside of the restaurant is simple and elegant, and although there is only a single flag that denotes the name, the small and simple entrance, as well as the tables set outside let one know as to the type of restaurant Betty's is going to be; good and different, with low prices and friendly service.

As soon as one walks inside, these thoughts prove themselves to be true. There are a few tables set up, but the limited amount of room encourages students and diners to eat outside, especially in summer, to enjoy the nice weather. However for those who do want to eat inside the restaurant, the inside looks more like a small coffee shop, and is set up perfectly for a small lunch for two, or even the perfect place to take a study break with a group of friends.

While it may be nice to sit inside Betty's, most people go out to eat for the food, and the food at Betty's is guaranteed not to disappoint. Although one might expect the restaurant to have the typical fare of burgers and fries, there is actually a variety of food available at Betty's. However, the majority of the food available consists of distinctive wraps. These wraps have a variety of ingredients, and range from the simple, such as turkey or ham wraps, to complex, such as wraps containing many ingredients, a flavored wraps, and different types of meat and cheese. So, no matter what one is in the mood to eat, Betty's offers a type of wrap that can complement almost any taste.

Of course, a wrap is not a meal by itself, and Betty's also has this idea covered. To go with the wrap one can get a variety of soups or salads, all prepared fresh daily, and never left to sit around. The soups are especially good, and one cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Also, if one is hungrier for a salad then a sandwich, there are a variety of salads available which can be meals in and of themselves.

While the food is very good, perhaps the highlight of Betty's is what one can get do drink with their meal. There are all types of fruit smoothies and different kinds of milkshakes. In addition, one can get different kinds of juice and even soda if that's what you prefer. Regardless of what you are thirsty for, or what you think will go good with your meal, chances are that Betty's has it.

Even though one may not often think of that small restaurant on the corner as being the best place in town to grab a quiet lunch and a delicious smoothie, those who know Betty's know that to be the case. No matter what one is hungry for, Betty's will satisfy, and it will do so in a pleasant, quiet and wonderful atmosphere. Betty's is truly one of Kutztown's hidden secrets.
