Restaurant Reviews: Jimmy's Hot Dogs of Easton, Pennsylvania

Simple, but Very Good

John Galt
Often, we tend to think of going out to eat only in terms of going to an expensive restaurant for a large meal. However, this does not have to be the case. In fact, sometimes it can be very enjoyable to go out for a simple or quick meal instead, especially if one happens to have a busy day planned; or if one does not have the time to set aside a few hours or so to go out to dinner. Sometimes, though, the challenge lies in finding a location which will not cause stomach pain and regret later. Thankfully, for those who happen to be traveling through Easton, a great place to grab lunch is known as Jimmy's Hot Dogs, and is located directly in the 248 Shopping Plaza.

Being located in a plaza, there really isn't a whole lot to differentiate Jimmy's from the rest of the restaurants that surround anyone entering the area. In fact, going into the building makes it clear that Jimmy's is a restaurant that is designed to stand out solely on the food that it provides. There is no area to eat inside the building, and those who are dining must either take their food with them or eat outside of the restaurant on one of the provided benches (assuming the whether is nice). However, while it is hard to award Jimmy's any points for the usability of their restaurant, there are a couple things that they should be commended on. Namely, no matter how busy it gets (sometimes the line travels out of the front door) the staff never seems overwhelmed or rushed. As soon as you get to the counter, you are the center of attention and the focus is on you. Customers are never rushed and the staff is some of the most pleasant and friendly people to be encountered. Also, the restaurant is incredibly clean. Even when ordering, one can see the "kitchen" of Jimmy's. The floors are spotless and everything in the kitchen still looks as it did the day it was new. Jimmy's in perhaps one of the cleanest restaurants that one can hope to enter for such a low price.

While there are some other menu items available, such as the occasional bowl of soup and a selection of chips, most come to Jimmy's for only one reason: the hot dogs. While this may be a bit hard to describe and understand, Jimmy's seems to have perfected the secret for making a great hot dog. Nowhere else will one find such as tasty meal or snack for under a dollar. The prices have never gone up and the quality of the food has never gone down. Jimmy's always uses premium, brand name hotdogs, and one can see the packaging next to the cooking appliances. However, despite the premium ingredients, the prices are very low, and one can easily get a lunch of two or three hot dogs and a drink for fewer than three dollars. While it may be impossible to describe why the hot dogs are so good, they just are, they simply must be tried to be believed.

Yes, Jimmy's may not be the most functional place to eat, but it may very well be one of the best little restaurants in the area. Those in the mood for a truly good, high quality hot dog, with friendly services and low prices will find Jimmy's is definitely the perfect place to grab lunch or a quick snack.

The 248 Plaza is the second Jimmy's location, after the original restaurant was destroyed in a flood.
