Restaurant Reviews: Stroudsmoore's of Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania

Excellent Atmosphere and Incredible Food

Located off of Highway 191, going up the mountain towards Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania rests one of the hidden culinary gems of the state. Once one turns off the main road, and drives but a short distance, they are treated to an entire area centered around Stroudsmoore's, a country inn and restaurant which offers both elegant atmosphere and attractive food to it's guests.

As soon as one enters the restaurant, they are treated to an atmosphere which seems to have been lost to many modern culinary establishments. With a fireplace and leather chairs centered in the middle of a large, country styled room, the restaurant is a perfect place to take refuge on a cold snowy nigh. Waiting to be seated is just as enjoyable as eating, as the fireplace snaps and cracks, and the warming light of the room seems to enter the guests, it is only natural to expect that good food will follow; and, indeed, the food is perhaps some of the best in the entire area.

However, the food at Stroudsmoore's is a tad bit different. Instead of ordering an entrée, the food at the restaurant is presented in buffet form. Different nights have different "themes" or different specialties. For example, some nights feature various kinds of fish, while another night may focus on various different types of cuisine. While this may not seem to match exactly with the upper class atmosphere and elegent surroundings, the buffet style of food actually works quite well.

Of course, Stroudsmoore's is not your typical buffet, and it is definitely reflected in the great quality of the food available. The restaurant always has a separate salad and soup bar available to patrons, and although the soup sometimes represents some slightly different choices, it is almost always geared to suit the food of the night and is generally top notch. A variety of breads, including delicious frosted raisin bread, is also constantly available, and is a great choice for those who like different kinds of break to complement their soup and salad.

However, the main courses are the real treat at Stroudsmoore's. Delicious pasta and vegetables, always cooked fresh and under constant rotation make sure that even diners who do not enjoy meat are provided with excellent food. However, with prime rib, fish, and delicious chicken dishes available, most will opt for several plates full of main dishes. The meat is always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Never is it overdone and never is it overseasoned.

When we couple the delicious main course entrées available with the equally tempting deserts and coffee (which come with every meal) Stroudsmoore's really is an excellent choice for dining. Add all of this with the simply superb atmosphere, which uses low, non stressful atmospheric lighting, and a wait staff dressed in formal clothing, and Stroudsmoore's is the perfect place for a business dinner, romantic evening out, or an excellent place to celebrate a special occasion.

Of course, none of this comes exactly cheap, and although the prices may be a bit steep as compared to standard restaurants, the great quality (and unlimited quantity) of the food and the overwhelmingly pleasant atmosphere contribute to make Stroudsmoore's well worth every penny spent on the meal. The restaurant may not be the best choice for children because of it's rather formal atmosphere, but many may appreciate the fact that nice dining does still exist, and that a place is available which serves to complement higher order tastes. While Stroudsmoore's does have a bar, patrons are guaranteed that there are no excessive noise levels, and the only noise that can generally be heard is a live piano player who plays pleasantly and skillfully, offering diners even more to love.

Yes, Stroudsmoore's may not be very well known, but it is definitely one of the hidden gems of the area, and is well worth the price. Those who try the restaurant for a formal dinner or a ice, low key celebration will not be disappointed. It is worth noting that the brunch available on Sunday afternoons is especially good, and well recommended as a first time experience, as the cost is a bit lower and the food generally not as rich as the ordinary fare.
