I was invited to a very unique wine event, even the name was different- The Capital Grille's Generous Pour Summer Wine Event. I liked the name Generous Pour. They let us know we really would be indulging in our wine experience. With The Capital Grille's motto "You will be wined, dined and dazzled" what more can anyone ask?

Alex Guerrero, Sommelier/ Waiter, brought all nine bottles to my table explaining about the qualities of each. "We are offering nine world-class wines for your selection to build a wine pairing with your meal. These are exceptional European old world (Italy, France, Spain, and Australia) and California new world wines to accommodate different palates. Tonight you will be having an individual experience customized to your tastes and menu choices.

It is called The Generous Pour because we are more than happy to pour extra of any particular wine that you enjoy. Guests are able to try nine ounces chosen from the nine wines but that is just a suggestion of what we give to build your wine pairing. If you prefer only white or only red we are happy to provide that. We can pair as many wines as you wish with your entrees. Please mention if you really enjoy a particular wine and you will receive more.

We don't stop at nine ounces. For example, the Freemark Abby Cabernet Sauvignon, from Bosche Vineyards is 70% Cabernet to 30% Merlot blend selling at $100 a bottle. You may wish two ounces of this wine if you love it as much as I do. When your filet arrives if you want to enjoy a little more wine please feel free to ask and I will be happy to bring it to you."

Normally nine ounces chosen from the nine wines would total $700 but guests are only paying $25 with their meal during the Generous Pour Wine Event until September 4.

Alex suggested, "The La Cana Albarino Wine, from Spain, compliments our calamari and their seafood appetizers.

While the Byron Pinot Noir, from Santa Barbara, would be a perfect pairing with the lobster and crab cakes appetizer and guests would also enjoy this wine with their pan- seared Citrus Glazed Salmon as well as other fish items.

The old myth of drinking red wine with red meat and white wine with white meat is a fallacy. The Cedar Planked Salmon can be served with the Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon."

With a menu featuring seven different steak entrees, which wine would Alex choose? He answered, "It all depends on each steak's marbling how we match the appropriate wine. The guests may prefer a heavier wine when they order filet or lighter with ribeye steaks and we are happy to serve whichever they wish. I want to invite everyone to come in and share our wine tasting experience."

George Miliotes, The Capital Grille's Master Sommelier, one of only 173 Master Sommeliers in the world, chose some rare and exciting wines for The Generous Wine Pour.

After attending many wine and spirits pairings, I can say, "The Capital Grille's Generous Pour Summer Wine Event is REALLY generous and fun! Their wall to wall windows provide a fantastic view of the strip's glittering lights.

Open- Lunch: 11 am-4 and Dinner: 4-10:30 pm, Monday-Saturday, and Dinner only, 4-10 pm, on Sunday.

The Capital Grille is located inside the Fashion Show Mall, on the third level, 3200 Las Vegas Boulevard South, on the strip, in Las Vegas.
