Restaurant Week Summer 2009 in Washington D.C
Five Best Places to Eat in Our Nation's Capitol According to Cat
If you're in the mood for Italian food and would like the fancy atmosphere without the fancy price, Tuscan West is the place to go. They have many entrees to choose from for under $30. They specialize in wines and foods from Tuscany and Northern Italy and offer Mediterranean flavors from Southern Italy.
They are located at 1350 I Street, NW Washington, DC 20005 between 13th and 14th, and their hours of operation are as follows:
11:30 AM -10:30 PM Monday-Friday
5:00 PM -11:00 PM on Saturdays
They are closed on Sundays
The dress is business/casual. You do not need reservations, but it is recommended, especially if you have a party of 4 or more, depending on the time that you go. Their phone number is (202) 289-7300. They accept Diner's Club, Visa, Master Card, and American Express.
4. McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Washington DC (K Street)
If you are in the mood for seafood and a feel for a fancy dining experience, you will love McCormick & Schmick's Seafood. I like this location even though there are several in the D.C. area because it is located just two blocks from the White House. I recommend their stuffed shrimp for your entree and creme brulee for dessert. The prices are reasonable but not cheap.
The address for this McCormick & Schmick's Seafood is 1652 K Street, NW Washington, DC 20006 between 16th and 17th. Their hours of operation are as follows:
Lunch:
Monday - Friday 11:00am-4:00pm, Saturday 2:00pm-4:00pm
Dinner:
Monday - Saturday 4:00pm-11:00pm, Sunday 4:00pm-10:00pm
The dress is business/casual and you don't need a reservation. However, if you'd like to make one anyway the phone number is (202) 861-2233. They accept Diners Club, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express.
3. Morton's The Steakhouse - Georgetown
If you love steaks, I recommend Morton's The Steakhouse. They offer prime generous portions of beef that are both tender and tasty. A little on the expensive side, but this isn't Denny's or Ihops steaks either. If you want the best, you have to shell out a bit more.
Morton's The Steakhouse in Georgetown is located at 3251 Prospect St., NW Washington, DC 20007. The Georgetown location is only open for dinner. Their hours of operation are as follows:
5:30 - 11:00 PM Monday - Friday
5:00 - 11:00 PM Saturdays
5:00 - 10:00 PM Sundays
The dress is business casual. They accept most credit cards, AMEX, Diners Club, MasterCard, and Visa. No reservations are needed, but I will forewarn you that this place is usually always packed. I recommend making reservations if you have a large party. Their phone number is (202) 202-342-6258.
They do have another location in downtown D.C. that is open for lunch as well as dinner. The address for their D.C. location is 1050 Connecticut Ave., NW Washington, DC 20036. Their phone number is (202) 342-6258. They do have the same menu, but their hours of operation are different. The hours for the downtown D.C. location are as follows:
Lunch: 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM Monday - Friday
Dinner: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM Monday - Friday and 4:30 PM - 11:00 PM Saturday -Sunday
Most of their entrees are in the $50 range, however there are some less expensive items to choose from. Keep in mind that if you are in the mood for prime rib, you will need to reserve that entree with your reservation. Morton's makes the best prime rib you've ever had but are limited in availability.
2. The Melting Pot - DC
I highly recommend the Melting Pot for a unique and romantic dining experience. It is a very relaxed atmosphere and they have private tables. You don't have to hunt down someone for service either. They are very attentive.
The Melting Pot is located at 1220 19th Street NW in Washington, DC 20036 located between M and N Streets.
They are a dinner restaurant. Their hours of operation are as follows:
5:00 PM - 10:00 PM Monday - Thursday
5:00 PM - 11:00 PM Friday & Saturdays
4:00 PM - 9:00 PM Sundays
They accept Mastercard, Visa, and American Express.
Dress is business/casual. No reservations are required, but I recommend you do especially if it's for a romantic dinner. Their phone number is (202) 857-0777.
I love their seafood and cheese fondues.
1. Rosa Mexicano
This is my #1 restaurant in D.C. They serve authentic Mexican food with a contemporary twist. They now even offer gluten free items on the menu. For the kids' menu they offer a Mexican selection too. My kids love the chicken fingers.
Rosa Mexicano is located at DC 575 7th St. NW in Washington, DC. F Street NW is the cross street. Their hours of operation are as follows:
Lunch: 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM Monday - Friday
Brunch: 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM Saturday - Sunday
Dinner: 4:00 PM - 10:30 PM Monday - Wednesday
4:00 PM - 11:30 PM Thursday - Saturday
4:00 PM - 10:00 PM Sunday
They accept most credit cards, Visa, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.
Dress is business/casual. No reservations are required, but I would recommend large parties to do so because they are usually packed. Their phone number is (202) 783-5522.
They have a large staff and the food is served quickly. I recommend their seafood enchiladas and their pulled pork entrees which are about $18-$25 a plate. It is well worth it though.
Opentable.com has a complete list of restaurants who are participating in the 15th Restaurant Week Celebration where fixed priced three course meals are prepared costing $20.09 for lunch and $35.09 for dinner.
