Guide to a Costa Rico Menu
Most of the restaurants in Costa Rica serve bistek of Carne, which is beef, and pescado which is fish. They also have many vegetarian dishes available; you'll want to refer to this as vegetariano. Most people come to Costa Rico, thinking their food is much like Mexican food. These people would be wrong, Costa Rico's food is healthier and some have even said blander. Though there are fresh fruits and vegetables. The juices are made very fresh and some would say cheaper to buy the fruit than the pre-made juices.
A couple of the most popular dishes from different restaurants are:
Casado- A meal that consists of rice, black beans, and a portion of either: fish, chicken, or beef and is also served with a fresh chopped cabbage salad.
Palmitos- Which is very interesting! This is the heart of a palm tree, the dead center. It is served in a salad with usually vinegar dressing.
