Unique Restaurants in San Antonio
Henry's Puffy Tacos - 815 Bandera Road (210) 432-7341
A locals spot and off the beaten path, Henry is the originator (or at least one of the originators) of the San Antonio famous puffy taco. A puffy taco is a fried taco shell made from uncooked masa dough that is pressed in a taco press and fried in hot oil. It is flaky, light, and has a puffy, bubbly fried crust. Stuffed with the usual taco fillings it is anything but the usual taco. Although you may find a few restaurants in other parts of the country making these, for the most part, San Antonio is keeping this special little taco shell all to themselves.

DeWese's Tip Top Cafe - 2814 Fredericksburg Road, (210) 732-0191
A San Antonio restaurant icon, the Tip Top Cafe is your typical diner style food served up scrumptiously. Locals swear by the huge chicken fried steak and gravy plate. Unique because it covers the entire plate. So tender you can't imagine not eating every bite. That is, if you didn't fill up on the wonderful onion rings. If you possibly have any room left, you can't leave this restaurant without a piece of coconut pie. Open for lunch and dinner. Closed on Monday.

Any of these restaurants will give you a true sense of what is special about restaurants in San Antonio and will ensure that you'll return soon to enjoy them again.
