Restoril for Short Term Insomnia

Patient Information You Should Be Aware Of

Sue Ellen K.
If your doctor has recently prescribed Restoril (Temazapam) to you, but you are unsure of how you are supposed to use it, or if you are simply interested in learning more about Restoril (Temazapam), then this literature should prove useful to you. Restoril (Temazapam) comes in capsule dosage form. The capsules come in the strengths of 7.5 milligrams, which are blue/pink, 15 milligrams which are maroon/pink, 22.5 milligrams which are only blue, and 30 milligrams which are maroon/blue in color. Restoril (Temazapam) is for the short term treatment of insomnia. Short term usually means 7-10 days of insomnia. Insomnia is the inability to sleep at night normally. Restoril (Temazapam) can help with the symptoms of insomnia, such as frequent awakenings, difficulty in falling asleep, and waking up early in the morning.

If you are taking Restoril (Temazapam) for short-term treatment of insomnia, then you should take 7.5 milligrams to 30 milligrams every thirty minutes right before bedtime. You may not use Restoril (Temazapam) for more than ten days straight. Restoril (Temazapam) is not for use in children that are under the age of eighteen years. Restoril (Temazapam) is a benzodiazepine. Benzodiazepines help the neurotransmitters in the brain by depressing the active segments of the brain, which in turn aid help you to fall asleep. The peak effects of Restoril (Temazapam) are reached in two to three hours. When you use Restoril (Temazapam) with other CNS (Central Nervous System) depressants, the action of Restoril (Temazapam) in increased, which could cause adverse effects on your health and your life. So before you consider taking any other sleep aides, let your doctor know immediately, even if it is something over the counter that is seemingly innocent, such as melatonin.

Restoril (Temazapam) should not be used in women that are pregnant, or any patients who are allergic in any way to benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in Restoril (Temazapam). If a patient suffers from any kidney disease or failure, Restoril (Temazapam) should be used with extreme caution. It should be noted that insomnia may be tied in to some kind of psychiatric disorder. Taking Restoril (Temazapam) is not a solution to that problem, but more like a temporary fix. If Restoril (Temazapam) fails to work after ten days, then the patient needs to be reevaluated to rule out any psychiatric distress that is causing the lack of sleep.

Restoril (Temazapam) can cause dizziness, laziness (lethargy), confusing, and drowsiness, a feeling of pleasure (euphoria), diarrhea, weakness, and anorexia. Since Restoril (Temazapam) can have a drowsy effect on your body system, you must exercise extreme caution when driving a vehicle or when working around other heavy machinery. Do not drink alcohol when taking Restoril (Temazapam). You should be aware of the fact that Restoril (Temazapam) is extremely habit-forming. Store Restoril (Temazapam) in a cool, dry place away from children and sunlight. Sunlight can decrease the potency of Restoril (Temazapam). If any of the side effects mentioned above become especially severe or bothersome, alert your physician immediately. If you miss a dose of Restoril (Temazapam), skip it, and then return to your regular dosing schedule. Never double dose on Restoril (Temazapam). And remember, Restoril (Temazapam) is not to be used for more than ten days.
