Restricted Youth and Abilene Mall

Youth has it's privileges, that time old saying got quickly nipped in the bud recently, as the city of Abilene in Texas discussed allowing minors under eighteen years of age to only visit the mall when accompanied by an adult on weekends. Abilene Texas is known for the infamous wild west history and is usually refered to as a church loving base town that harbors B-52 aircraft, and hundreds of churches. With a population of a little over one hundred thousand, the areas crime statistics are intresting, violent crimes and property crimes being the most noted illegal activity in comparison to the national average. The minor restriction will begin October seventeenth will not include the Cinema, minors under eighteen will be able to arrive unaccompanied thirty minutes early and leave when the movie is finished.

Some parents appreciate the effort by the City of Abilene but feel that the interference is a bit much. Sixteen year olds can obtain their license to drive a motor vehicle, with parental premission or joint title but cannot go to the mall unattended on weekends. Abilene allowing the Cinema to have minors unattended in a movie theater presents another issue. Assuming the restriction prevents theft or other property crime and merchant upset, there is still a possibility of violent crime allowing the movie to let minors in unattended, even ticket restriction may not be enough. If you allow your minors under eighteen out, to go view a G rated movie, it's your responsibility as a parent to give warning and saftey tips.
