Results for Rat Pack Week Brings an End to the Road for Matt Giraud

After Giving a Great Performance Matt Giraud Comes Up Short This Week

Kimberly Smith
Last night was a tough one for all of us Matt Giraud fans. We hated to see him go but, like Jamie Foxx and all of the judges told the top five, "they are all great and will go far when this season is over". Matt was very laid back but had some very good performances this season. His take on "Let's get it on" will be remembered by fans for a long time.

He will do the summer tour of course with the rest of the top ten and after that I would expect great things from him. He has been compared to some very popular artist, but Matt is his own man and he knows what style fits him best.

Shockingly Adam was in the bottom three. I personally think they just did that for the effect. The drama if you will of seeing "everyone's" favorite in the bottom three just to keep viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the show. I didn't for a minute think he was in danger of being sent home.

The thing that still puzzles me is how Allison escaped the bottom three last night and how Kris was in it. Allison did ok with Someone to Watch Over Me, but I didn't think it was enough to draw the votes she would need to hold on to a spot. So much for what I know. I watch these shows and I do the same thing everyone that watches does, I make my picks based on my own personal opinion and sometimes I get it right and sometimes I am way off base. It's fun anyway you look at it.

Now that we are down to the final four, it will be very difficult to send the next contestant home. Next week's assignment is Rock and Roll and Adam and Allison should feel right at home and shine like no other two contestants. The one who may have a bit of a problem with it could be Kris. He is so pop, kind of country, cross over, that doing true Rock N Roll may be difficult for him.

We did get to enjoy three performances last night by three stars, which could teach a thing or two to these kids. Natalie Cole was featured to give us a taste of the rat pack era music, then we were honored to have back on the American Idol stage, Taylor Hicks, season 5 winner. He is the same kick it in high gear soul patrol leader he was back then. Finally Jamie Foxx performer his current number one single "Blame It", and brought the house down. They were three great performances by three very different artists, each great in their own arena.

So we will turn our attention to the final four next weeks and the theme Rock N Roll. It should prove to be very interesting and entertaining.

  • Matt Giraud says Goodbye to American Idol.
  • For the first time this season, Adam was in the bottom three.
  • Jamie Foxx encouraged and praised each performer for being great artist.
It was suprising to see Adam in the bottom three instead of Allison.
Taylor Hicks returned to the American Idol stage and received a standing ovation by the audience and the judges as well.
