The resume must tell the reader all about the job seeker. This means starting the resume with the pertinent information: name, address and contact information. (Information such as age and gender is not be required and can be frowned upon in countries like the US where age discrimination is illegal. However, in many countries age and gender is an absolute must.) The pertinent information must be up to date since the objective is to land the job interview. The employer must be able to contact you easily.
Next are the career objectives. The resume should state strong and clear goals as oppose to general ones. Stating clear goals will allow the employer to see why the applicant wants to work for the company, and it will show that the applicant has direction and focus.
The relevant skills are next. This section should detail the skill and knowledge one has had in current and previous positions. It should also highlights the major accomplishments at each position. By detailing the accomplishments of the job seeker in previous positions and by noting experiences had in these positions, the employer can see how the potential employee will fit the position. It will also give the employer insight into the talent and qualities prospective employee has to contribute to the growth of the organization.
Educational background is important. The resume should list the schools, educational fields, degrees and professional licenses the applicant currently holds. Companies generally require degree holders for professional position. The resume must show that the applicant possess the required degree.
When required the last section of the resume should contain hobbies, interest and character references. Organizations want applicants who are qualified for the position and who are well rounded people. Activity in certain social and charitable organization shows the job seeker's social skills. Professional references are normally required in order to give hiring managers contact persons to vouch for your credentials and professional character.
