If your countertops are less than attractive, but are in otherwise good condition, there's really no need to replace them. Instead, you can resurface countertops in one weekend with a unique product available primarily through Lowe's Home Improvement, but also online. Modern Masters Countertop Transformations allows you to completely transform the look and feel of your old countertops in just a few days, and will cost less than half the price of replacing them entirely. This product is available in five different colors and adheres to laminate and most other countertop surfaces.

Each Modern Masters Countertop Transformations kit includes most of the supplies you'll need to finish your cabinet resurfacing project, and will cover 50 square feet of countertop space. The kit is sold for a price of $2480 and there are five different colors to choose from. Select from charcoal, desert sand, pebbled ivory, canyon brown and desert sand. This is not just paint that will cover your countertop, however. Each kit requires several steps of application which coat the surface with a rough, granite-like finish that will wear well for several years. Considering the cost of a brand new countertop, this product offers an affordable way to resurface countertops that will look just like new.

Resurface countertops in one weekend with Modern Masters Countertop Transformations -
What you need to know beforehand.

Read the instructions! - This sounds like a no-brainer, but to ensure proper application, follow packaging instructions to the letter. Failure to properly follow manufacturer's guidelines will result in poor coverage, an uneven appearance, and the overall cabinet resurfacing will not hold up very long. When you use the kit properly, however, you can expect to enjoy beautiful results for years to come.

Protective gear is a must - The coatings you'll be working with in the Modern Masters Countertop Transformations kit have a very strong odor and can make you feel nauseous if you are exposed to them. To protect yourself from the fumes, wear a respiratory mask and ventilate the room as much as possible. You will also need to wear protective gloves and should either wear old clothing or something over your clothes to protect them from paint splatter.

What you should do with scuff marks, chips, and so on - If your countertops have minor flaws and imperfections, they can as is. However, any large cracks or chips will need to be filled in with epoxy putty and sanded before using the Modern Masters Countertop Transformations kit. Remember, the paint and top coating that are used in this type of cabinet resurfacing are very grainy, and will help to cover minor imperfections and stains.

How long will countertop resurfacing with Modern Masters Countertop Transformations take?

In all honesty, the most time consuming part of resurfacing countertops with this product is the dry time. The actual amount of time you will spend on the labor itself is between 4 - 6 hours, depending on how large of a space you will be coating. The process itself is not difficult at all, but you have to be thorough with your application. After the work is complete, there is a minimum of 48 hours product dry time and a full 1 - 2 weeks of product cure time. Yes, that means you will have to go without using your countertops for quite awhile. Therefore, if you will be resurfacing countertops in a frequently used space (such as the kitchen), consider working one small area at a time so you have free space to perform daily duties.
