Retail Pain: Too Much Marketing

Ashby Koss
Stop. Look around at the world. I no longer want anything to be pushed onto me like I want to buy it. I walk into any store and everything is geared towards you buying it. I know that it is a business and selling items is what they need to do to make money. I feel like I am getting road rash from ll this being thrown at me. almost 100% of the time I am being advertised to for things I do not need. The packages the marketing, is it needed?

I frequent a privately owned gun range where they sell used and new firearms. The people there believe that nothing is needed to be pushed onto the customers, "if something is going to sell it will sell on it's own". The last thing most people want is someone trying to sell them something that they don't need. Even worse is when you want to get something specific and they try to sell you something else saying that your original "something" is not that good. This to me is the same as insulting my intelligence, if I don't know about something fully I would not be buying it!

Let's not forget those pesky commission pay employees. Once they hit a certain level they either don't care or will always try to shaft you into buying things you do not need. All of this just for their paycheck to be a bit higher. Considering that they make about 2 percent of the net gain from the company, that is alt of pushing and selling of worthless junk to boost their paychecks to a livable level. If I can avoid these commission pay employees I do at all costs.

All in all, I feel "raw", like I have been dragged behind a car down a road. Too much retail advertising everywhere. I can no longer even browse online without wadding through loads of useless junk being pushed at me. Of course there is no true solution for this problem. Well, not unless the whole system changes and retail umbrellas drastically change their customer outlook. Changes like these will never take place, not within our economic structure. The floating hand system economy will allow it, but greed of humans will never allow it. The 6 digit figures earned by company executives is not enough. To grow as a business they must earn more money than before. Almost all company executives are not happy with making the same amount of money two years in a row, they must make for some obscure reason. The same reason for Wal-Mart and their horrible health insurance plans. If the executives were to cut their yearly pay wage increase by a bit and provide better health insurance it would thin the money in their own pockets and that we cannot have.

This problem is all across the world. It will not change at least not in the near future, it may never change. Until it does I will remain to feel "raw" from the advertisements and the constant marketing. Maybe someday the companies will back off just a bit for comfort and breathing room, I see that as unlikely though.
