The rule of black and white some say
An open mind sees that line expanding
And accepting the concept of shades of gray
We cannot all live by the same beliefs
Our values rely on different rules
One path is never always correct
And another is not always the path of fools
Before we throw down the gauntlet of intolerance
We need to see the other side
And lift up the veil that blinds our souls
Find ways to unite instead of divide
For those who say it's my way or no way
Miss the gift that compassion bestows
When we find common ground on which to build
The good around us takes root and grows

Post a CommentThe "good" will always grow - even when it isn't nurtured. It's a fact of life ): Cheers! (still have 600+ emails to read - but I'm down to the D's!)
It's not always easy to see the other person's point of view, but we owe it to them to try.
Thanks for sharing your poem.
There are very few absolutes in this world! Everyone has a different set of values...and that doesn't make anyone wrong, they are just focussing on the things THEY need to work on!
Well done to exlore right and wrong!
There are always two sides to every story.
I just saved this poem to my favorites. This poem today was sent as a blessing to my family.
Well said Donna! I truly belief that most folks have more in common than they think if they would just take the time to listen to one another. I love your work!
You are sooo good Donna. I think the common ground here among all of us is that we love your work. There is nothing common at all about your giftedness friend. It is quite uncommon in this world, and sorely missing. What a poet!
I think both sides, to a certain extent, are intolerant - but only one side is usually accused! Good work.
