Baby boomers have always rewritten the rules and retirement living is not going to escape these seniors clutches. This generation of seniors will continue to work and play as hard as they always have. It is expected that this group of seniors will be the biggest portion of spenders of any group of people.
The housing industry is preparing to accommodate the retirement living lifestyle of the baby boomers. Houses will be smaller and have more of a community atmosphere. Many seniors will be looking to the warmer climates for retirement housing that is low cost and affordable. These retirement communities will also have to have such amenities as, golf courses, hiking and biking trails, fitness centers, and shopping centers close by. No longer will seniors be an isolated sector.
Because of their spending habits, baby boomers will continue to work either part time or full time taking their careers to a new level or beginning a new career. Gone is the rocking chair community as the new seniors will stay involved in community affairs and volunteer work. Gone will be living retirement unseen and unheard. The baby boomers have always been outspoken when it came to making their needs heard. This is the "me generation" and retirement is going the make the world take notice.
Retirement living is also going to mean being more involved in the family circle. As the baby boomer generation was the first generation to consist of both parents working outside the home, they are now going to want to embrace there family and more importantly their grandchildren. So much was lost with their own children's lives as both parents were so busy working and learning how to balance having it all. Grandparents will be stepping in to be a more active part in there grandchildren's lives. A rekindling of the family hub will be back. The family connection is going to create retirement living communities that place the grandparents closer to where their children are living.
Here come the boomers. Retirement living is going to change in such a way it will be unrecognizable. Throw out those rockers and bring in the Nordic Track.
