Retiring Early: Why Amanda Bynes is Leaving Hollywood

Mary Thatcher
Award winning actress Amanda Bynes has decided to make a major career change: retiring from acting, and looking into something else that is less demanding. omg!Yahoo! reports that the lovely actress announced her decision to retire early on Twitter. Even though she loved her work, and is satisfied with the contributions she made in the area of children's television programming, Amanda feels that her time has come to move on, since acting is no longer fun for her. She won the Blimp Award in five consecutive years from 2000 to 2004 for her work on "All That", "The Amanda Show", "Big Fat Liar", and "What A Girl Wants." That is quite an achievement for the young actress. Amanda's decision to leave acting will no doubt leave her fans missing her, even though she is not the first Hollywood figure to make this decision.

1930's songbird Deanna Durbin retired from acting at the age of 27, acknowledging that the Hollywood life was no longer for her, even though she made good money with her work and invested wisely. Deanna was also married when she retired, to director Felix Jackson, but found her final husband in French producer Charles David. It is rare that an actress in her 20's can afford to retire as Deanna did, but that was in another era. Being able to live a secluded life and enjoy the arts and traveling is something to be wished for upon retirement, as Deanna was able to do so. But Amanda is a bit different in this case, for she has the energy and drive to succeed at whatever she wishes to achieve.

Being young at 24, Amanda is far from settling down to a life of being a homemaker. Being a talented comedian, she could very well do stand up comedy or even a one-woman comedy show live on stage. She is so talented, in fact, that her performances have been frequently compared to that of Lucille Ball, the famous redhead who is considered by many to be America's greatest comedienne.

Amanda has always had a close fan base, especially with children who watch her shows on Nickelodeon. Like Deanna, she is the kind of retired actress who, even though retired, will still enjoy receiving fan letters. Whatever Amanda decides to choose as a next career, she will still have fond memories of being an actress.
