Retiring Wealthy with a Profitable Home Business: A Journey to Success

Kerry Mulherin
Starting a profitable home business and retiring wealthy is the dream of most people, but can you make it with deliberate intent? Probably not, unless you're involved with something you are really passionate about, or you're willing to spend a fortune. A home business requires one to possess knowledge about taxes and the IRS, have great technical know how, and the ability to manage staff effectively. If you plan to become self employed and can't complete these simple tasks, an accidental success may be your only hope.

Recently I was very fortunate to meet Marty Mitchell, a self made successful businessman and Founder of Air-Tites. Marty had always had some interest in coin collecting, he remembered his Father and Grandfather had a few coins when he was a child. In 2001 after purchasing some coin folders for his own collection, he took some to work and showed a few buddies. He had bought more than he needed since the discount made sense, so he planned to just put some aside for later use as his collection grew. What followed is a lesson for us all in incredible common sense and perseverance where home based business is concerned.

Marty's co-workers and friends began to ask where they could get some coin folders, and perhaps one for their relatives. Those relatives sent word that they wouldn't mind having a coin folder for a friend's birthday...and so it went on. Marty knew he could buy in bulk and make his money back in an instant so he was glad to help out. But the orders kept coming. In no time at all Marty was buying and selling coin folders and other numismatic gifts with no effort at all. People began looking for him. He quit his day job and focused on what needed to be done to get this venture looking more like a real business. The more coin folders he ordered, the more orders he got. He began to stockpile inventory which was strewn about his home. It finally got too much and a solution was needed to recoup living space. He decided to build a storage shed and set about scouring local newspapers and surfing the web looking for the best quote possible. The money was rolling in, but was the expense justifiable at many thousands of dollars?

Here is where most people would have quit. Rather than persist with his current situation or spend the money on appropriate storage, Marty contacted his supplier and told them of his dilemma. It was at that instant his mind began racing and suddenly he came to a stupidly simple conclusion. Get a website. It all sounds so simple to most people, certainly, but Marty didn't know anything about building a website. He decided the only way was to teach himself, and he did. His regular customers keep coming back, and more and more traffic was building. Marty was proud of the decision he'd made to launch online, and the site was quite impressive for a self taught, newbie entrepreneur. In fact, it was so impressive people began to ask him where they could get a website too. Marty didn't hesitate for an instant. He set about building a website to sell websites, all hand coded by himself from scratch.

Marty is a proud Arkansan and was born and raised in the Duck and Deer hunting capital of the world, Stuttgart, Arkansas. Because of this, it made perfect sense that his first very first creations showcased hunting accessories and local duck clubs. Naturally, due to his passion the new businesses "Hunting Club Sites" became yet another instant roaring success. Business continues to flow in and life couldn't be better for Marty and his family.

The home based business industry doesn't have to be complicated, Marty is living proof of that fact. He knew very little about the internet and nothing whatsoever about coding. He took the steps needed to achieve each goal without hesitation, and as a result he is able to spend time with his family and doing what he loves outside of the home, hunting. If an obstacle gets in his way, Marty determines what he needs to learn in order to fix it, then does just that. Is Marty looking for a new niche? Maybe. If one comes his way through interest it's highly likely he will launch yet another business, then another. Having a love for what he's now doing is what bought success, he didn't need to look for it. If you are really passionate about something people can tell you're genuine. There is no need for viral marketing, keyword success or costly pay per click advertising. Word of mouth obviously spawns more opportunity than any other medium available.

In Marty's own humble words, "it just took off".

If you're interested in coin collecting or getting a handcrafted original website for your hobby or business, check out marty's businesses listed below. Send him an email and say hello, he's a true gentleman and a fine example of what a successful businessperson really is.
