Retrieving a Lost Blog

Jacob Lewis
The first step to facing any problem is to stay calm and accept the situation as it is without any reservations . Anyone should be ready to accept the situation as it is and think calmly about a suitable solution. This applies to even losing a blog which one cannot retrieve. It is best to remember that it is just due to some technological mishap and no one can do anything about it.

It is better for the person to become pro-active. If the data has not been saved and backed up at regular intervals it is best to start doing it. Generally the blogs can be put in notepads and saved in a folder which has a backup in another computer. It is best to do the backup regularly say once a week or in 10 days. It is to be believed that just like our computers need to be cleaned of viruses the Word Press has to also do it periodically.

There is however a good piece of news that could help people to retrieve their blogs at times if they have been posted in search engines like Google. This can be tried out by simply typing in the "sitename.com". Then the "Cached" link below the search result should be clicked. So it is better to have a browser that supports this function since at times there may be many pages to be retrieved. This would take the browser to the page where Google would state the date it has been saved, however all the images may not be available as Google does not preserve copies forever.

Then by a right click, and a click on "Save As" we may be able to get the images also. with the source code of the page. If the blogger is using Word Press, the browser may be able to find the title of the post, it's date, and it's contents. The title and contents of the post could be copied and pasted on to a text document and saved. Then Word Press Post can be opened and the the post copied and pasted onto it with respect to all details. The Word Press Post Time Stamp option could be used to paste the post with the original date.

It would be best if you could retrieve your lost blog in this way. But even if a person is able to retrieve the blog or not he should take steps of caution not to let it happen again. It is best for anyone to find out if his hosts keep backup and if they do it if they would help him do it for a small fee. Also every blogger or website owner should make it a point to go through the blogs often, to predict failures in time.

To conclude, it is always best for all website owners and blogger s to have a backup of their unique work so they do not have to cry over spilt milk. Google can however help them but as it is said that is bad to cry over spilt milk, similarly it is useless to repent having lost a blog when you could have devised methods to retrieve it in case it is lost.
