Retro Backgrounds for MySpace

Heather K. Adams
I love the Retro look when I'm searching for backgrounds for my MySpace page. Here are seven of the best sites for great Retro MySpace backgrounds.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: MySpace Master
MySpace Master features 258 Retro backgrounds for MySpace: pin up girls, smiley faces, bright swirling colors, old school Hawaiian, rock n' roll circa 1960s, circular patterns, peace signs and hearts, paisley, polka dots, flower power, muted browns and pinks, turquoise and green patterns, rainbows, etc.

The great thing about this website is that it's so easy to use. There is a "Preview It" feature which, when you click on it, it opens a new tab (or window) so you are able to see what the Retro background for MySpace looks like full screen. Click on the "Get MySpace Layout Codes" button to get the code with step by step instructions on how to install the new layout.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: Free Code Source
With 275 Retro backgrounds for MySpace to choose from, there is something for everyone on Free Code Source. The MySpace backgrounds are a bit more sophisticated on this site, with layouts featuring Marilyn Monroe via Andy Warhol, Retro hair, swirling browns, turquoise and hot pink, tie-dye, clouds, and black and white butterflies to name a few.

This site offers a five star rating system so you can see which were the most popular and favored. There is a live preview using your own profile, it shows other layouts by the same author, and there are easy instructions on how to install the code.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: Layouts Planet
Layouts Planet offers 112 Retro backgrounds for MySpace, including the one I have on my personal MySpace page. Layouts include beautiful dark oranges, turquoise and olive green patterns, rainbow stars, and Retro leaves (which is my background).

Again, this website is very easy to use. Click on the "Preview" button to see it live, and then "Download" to install the code. Only drawback is that there are no specific instructions on how to install the Retro backgrounds to your MySpace page.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: Code My Layout
Code My Layout is similar to the Free Code Source website in that it had star ratings and a similar look to the website. There are 148 Retro backgrounds for MySpace from hearts to rainbows to hippie flower power from which to choose.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: Ultimate MySpace
Ultimate MySpace is a relatively small site, but it has really great Retro backgrounds for MySpace. There are about 100 layouts with great colors and designs from which to pick. Again, there is a live preview option available and easy step-by-step instructions to help set the Retro background up on your MySpace. They promise a message board with HTML and CSS tutorials soon.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: Pimpoo
Pimpoo is a really small website with just 13 Retro backgrounds for MySpace, but it is definitely worth a peek. Completely different Retro layouts than the bigger sites: cute sayings, art deco type layouts, and muted watercolors in 1960s patterns.

Retro Backgrounds for MySpace: Smoke 420
With only 22 Retro MySpace layouts, I found this site on page four of my Google search. Smoke 420 has great layouts though, definitely worthy of a look-see, with a really cool feature: instead of clicking on the thumbnail to open a new window in which to see the layout large scale, simply mouse over the thumbnail to see a bigger photo of each layout.

Smoke 420 Retro backgrounds for MySpace include vintage pearl, vintage car, vintage telephone, TV, and female silhouettes. If you're looking for something completely different, look no further. But don't click this page if you're offended by sexy advertising.

Love the retro look, some good tips here. And your hippie picture looks a bit like the Mandelbrott fractal (sorry, math geek talking....). Nice article.
