Have some fun this holiday season by transforming your tree into a retro Christmas tree that features fun, bright and whimsical decorations from the past. Whether you prefer live or artificial trees, it is easy to create a retro Christmas with these Christmas tree decorating ideas.

Trimming the Christmas Tree with Retro Christmas Tree Décor

A silver tree gives you the instant retro look, but you can create a vintage holiday look for less by using an artificial tree you already have or with a freshly cut Christmas tree. If you really want a silver tree, consider painting an artificial tree with metallic silver spray paint. Or if you'd like to preserve the look of your tree, add a touch silver by trimming the Christmas tree with silver tinsel or adding a bright silver retro tinsel star tree topper.

Bubble lights are essential retro Christmas tree décor. These classic lights from the 1950s capture the nostalgia of yesteryear while adding a bit of retro fun to your Christmas tree décor. Bubble lights can be found online and from most stores selling holiday lights. To minimize cost, use traditional multi-colored lights throughout the tree and then use a few bubble lights to enhance the look of your retro Christmas tree décor.

Bright and colorful ornaments are essential for completing your retro Christmas tree décor. When trimming the Christmas tree, use some colorful glass retro bulb or globe-shaped ornaments. Hallmark has several fun retro-themed ornaments that add fun to any Christmas tree. A Retro Christmas also features a full selection of fun ornaments on their web site.

If you are looking for low-cost ornaments to add some retro flair to your Christmas tree décor, try making your own retro ornaments. Retro ornaments can be made out of card stock, floral wire, old magazines, Christmas cards, and other vintage artwork. Card stock or even painted pieces of cardboard provide a sturdy background for this Christmas tree décor. Select several fun designs and vintage artwork to use on your ornament and cut out. Use decoupage glue to hold the artwork in place. Punch a hole in the top of the paper. Run ribbon through the hole and tie both ends together so you can easily hang the homemade retro ornament on your Christmas tree.

Now finish off the look of your retro Christmas tree decor by using a vintage tree skirt. You can find several designs through online retailers like eBay or Amazon.com. Or consider making your own retro inspired tree skirt using a plain felt tree skirt and ironing on some retro designs found at most craft stores.

Have some fun this Christmas by creating a fun and whimsical tree that honors some of the favorite ornaments and design elements of the past with these retro Christmas tree ideas.
