Retro Fabric Cook Book Craft Project

Ann Siper
This retro fabric cookbook is an easy craft you can make for your vintage kitchen or as a gift for someone who loves to cook. Try to use retro fabric or vintage fabric when making this fun and easy cookbook. It adds a fun shabby chic touch and makes this craft special.

To Make a Retro Fabric Cook Book You Will Need:

Retro fabric

3 Binder Rings

6 Grommets

Grommet Maker

Scissors

Muslin

No Fray

Ink

Stamps

Sewing Machine

Cardboard

To get started you want to measure how wide and tall your book or paper inserts are when closed. You will need to cut out 2 pieces of retro fabric to this width as well as one piece of the heavy weight craft interfacing and 2 pieces of muslin. Add one inch to the width and height when cutting out the fabric.

Now, Take each piece of muslin and lay it face up on your table. You want to take your heavy weight craft web and iron it to the back of each of the exterior fabric pieces.

Lay each one face down on the muslin. Sew the two sides and tops shut. Turn the squares inside out. Fold the open end and iron it flat. Sew this shut.

Now, decide where to place your three holes for the rings. You will need to use your grommets to measure the three holes. Cut each one out after tracing the grommet holes. You will need three grommet holes on the front piece and the back piece of the retro fabric recipe book cover.

Now, simply assemble the three rings, the insert pages, and the fabric cover make from vintage fabric and your recipe book is finished!

Tips for Customizing Your Retro Recipe Book Cover:

First, try using muslin to make a small square of fabric. Use fabric ink and ink stamps to stamp the word "Recipe" on the front. Before you start any sewing simply stitch this on to the front piece of fabric you cut out for the retro recipe book!

You can also add a clasp on the front to make the retro recipe book stay shut. Try sewing a button on the front of the fabric cover. You can sew a simply piece of elastic ribbon on the back. When the recipe book is shut you simply pull the looped ribbon to the front and hook over the button to keep your retro recipes safe!

The vintage fabric recipe books make great gifts!
